Michelle Keegan (born 3 June 1987 [1] ) is an English actress, known for her roles as Tina McIntyre in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street and Sergeant Georgie Lane in the BBC drama series Our Girl . Keegan has also starred as Kate Thorne in Ten Pound Poms , Tina Moore in the biopic Tina and Bobby , Erin Croft in Sky Max comedy Brassic and Maya Stern in Fool Me Once .

Early life

Keegan was born in Stockport to Michael Keegan and Jackie Turner. Her maternal great-grandmother was a Gibraltarian who married a British soldier stationed in Gibraltar, and she also has distant Italian ancestry from her seven-times great-grandfather who emigrated to Gibraltar from Genoa. She has Irish ancestry on her father's side. [2] [3] [4] [5]

She attended St Patrick's RC High School in Eccles near Manchester, [6] and later the Manchester School of Acting. [7] She worked at Selfridges in the Trafford Centre, and as a check-in agent at Manchester Airport. [8]

Career

In late 2007, in only her second audition, Keegan was offered the part of Tina McIntyre in Coronation Street , and accepted the role, beating around 900 other people who auditioned. [8] She decided to leave the show after six years in 2013 and Tina was killed off, making her last appearance on 2 June 2014. [9] [10] [11] Throughout her time on the show, Keegan's character Tina featured in many high-profile storylines. The Guardian listed her as one of the 10 best Coronation Street characters of all time in 2010. [12] In 2008, the actress flew out to South Africa to film the straight-to-DVD film Coronation Street: Out of Africa , a Coronation Street spinoff, in which she appeared as Tina.

In June 2009, Keegan made her radio debut co-hosting the BBC Radio 1 programme The Official Chart. [8] She was featured on the cover of FHM magazine in January 2011 and placed at number 30 and number 26 in their 100 Sexiest Women poll for 2010 and 2011, respectively. She appeared on their cover again in March 2013 and was placed at number four in the 2013 poll, eventually winning in 2015. [13]

Keegan made a guest appearance as herself in the 2009 Easter special Red Dwarf: Back to Earth . In June 2014, she embarked on a European tour to perform as Tinkerbell in Peter Pan . [14] [ better source needed ]

In 2015, she was cast as Tracy Shawcross in the BBC television drama series Ordinary Lies . In June 2015, it was announced that she would play the starring role of Corporal Georgie Lane in series 2 of the BBC drama series Our Girl , which aired throughout September 2016; [15] [16] third season consisting of 12 episodes began airing in October 2017. She returned for her final series as Georgie in 2020. Also in 2016, Keegan landed a guest role on the ITV2 comedy series Plebs . [17] [18] In June 2016, she began filming the ITV drama series Tina and Bobby , based on Tina Dean's and Bobby Moore's relationship in which she played Tina; it was a three part series which aired in January 2017. [19] In 2017, Michelle Keegan partnered with the clothing brand Lipsy with her own collection. [20]

Keegan portrayed the main character, Erin Croft, in Sky One's comedy-drama series, Brassic , which started in 2019. [21] [22] On 22 February 2022, Keegan was a guest judge on the Snatch Game episode of the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs. the World . [23] In May 2022, the BBC and STAN commissioned a new series starring Keegan, Ten Pound Poms , a drama about the British citizens who migrated to Australia after the Second World War, with filming commencing in Australia shortly after. Keegan starred as the main character, Maya Stern, in the 2024 eight-part television series Fool Me Once, adapted from the 2016 Harlan Coben novel of the same name by Danny Brocklehurst and made for Netflix by Quay Street Production. [25]

Personal life

Keegan was in a relationship with The Wanted singer Max George from December 2010. The couple became engaged in June 2011, but ended their relationship the following year. [26] [27] In September 2013, after a nine-month courtship, the actress announced her engagement to Mark Wright. They married on 24 May 2015. [28] [29]

Peter Barlow (<i>Coronation Street</i>) Fictional character from Coronation Street

Peter Barlow is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Coronation Street, played by Chris Gascoyne from 2000 to 2023. The character of Peter was born on screen during an episode broadcast on 5 April 1965, he was born along with his twin sister Susan to parents Ken and Valerie Barlow. Gascoyne made his first appearance in the role during the 40th anniversary live episode airing on 8 December 2000. Gascoyne left the role in 2003 and returned in 2007 for a brief stint before returning full-time in 2008. In January 2014 it was confirmed that Gascoyne would be leaving once again. His final scenes aired on 14 November 2014. In April 2015, it was announced that Gascoyne would reprise the role for two episodes for the funeral of Deirdre Barlow and Peter returned on 15 July 2015 and left once again the following day. In July 2016, it was announced that Peter would be returning as a regular character, with his return airing on 17 October 2016. Peter departed the series again on 26 December 2023. Peter made a voice appearance on 24 January 2024. Peter's storylines have included a number of affairs, alcoholism and a custody battle involving his son Simon Barlow. Peter became involved in a bigamy storyline when he married Rovers barmaid Shelley Unwin and florist Lucy Richards. Having been discovered, Peter was left alone and fled Weatherfield. He returned briefly in 2007 when his adoptive sister Tracy Barlow was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Charlie Stubbs. He returned for good in 2008 with five-year-old Simon, whom he had by Lucy; who had since died from breast cancer. Peter began a relationship with Leanne Battersby and they married during the 50th anniversary episode; however, they divorced in 2012 after Peter's affair with Carla Connor was discovered. He was featured in the writers' section of Broadcast magazine's Hot 100 in 2007. His 2024 Netflix drama Fool Me Once is the 6th most successful Netflix show of all time.

Natalie Jane Anderson is an English actress, singer and television presenter. She is known for her roles as Stella Davenport in the medical drama The Royal from 2005 to 2008 and Alicia Metcalfe in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale from 2010 to 2015. She also played the role of Nessarose in the London production Wicked from May 2009 to March 2010. Introduced as the brother of Carla Connor, he made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 9 July 2012. It was announced in June 2014 that Baylis would be leaving the role after two years following his involvement in a storyline where Rob was responsible for murdering Tina McIntyre. Rob departed on 5 November 2014. It was reported in August 2015 that Baylis would be reprising the role as Rob, and he returned to filming in October for a short storyline. His return aired on 4 December 2015 and he departed a month later, on 4 January 2016. He returned again on 19 April 2017 and departed on 8 May 2017.
