The Ministry of the Popular Power for Interior, Justice and Peace (Ministerio del Poder Popular para Relaciones Interiores, Justicia y Paz) is one of 39 agencies that make up the executive office of the Venezuelan government . This ministry is also called the Ministry of Popular Power for Interior Relations and Justice and Ministry of Interior and Justice.

The President of Venezuela, officially known as the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is the head of state and head of government in Venezuela. The president leads the National Executive of the Venezuelan government and is the commander-in-chief of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces. Presidential terms were set at six years with the adoption of the 1999 Constitution of Venezuela, and presidential term limits were removed in 2009.

History

Minister Jesse Chacon said in 2004 that the Ministry of Justice would then be called the Ministry of Interior and Security Policy. [1] In 2013, President Nicolas Maduro announced that the ministry took the name of Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace. [2]

Néstor Luis Reverol Torres holds the position of Minister of the People's Power for Interior Relations and Justice of Venezuela and is currently Commander General of the National Guard of Venezuela. On 3 August 2016, he was appointed as interior minister by President Nicolás Maduro.

The Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas (CICPC) is Venezuela's largest national police agency, responsible for criminal investigations and forensic services. It replaced the Cuerpo Tecnico de Policia Judicial in 2001.

Guillermo Tell Villegas was a Venezuelan politician, lawyer, and writer. Among other government positions, he served as interim President of Venezuela in 1868, 1870 and 1892. Starting his career in law, he became governor of Barinas in 1859 and afterwards held various roles in the government of Juan Crisostomo Falcon, including deputy in the Assembly of Victory, Minister of Interior and Justice, and interim Foreign Minister of Venezuela. In 1864 and in 1866 was appointed to the Federal High Court. Villegas participated in the La Genuina revolution in 1867, and was elected president of the Chamber of Deputies in 1868, where he openly opposed the government of Falcón. The Blue Revolution in 1868 removed Falcon from power, and Villegas became Foreign Minister under President José Ruperto Monagas. In 1868 Villegas spent eight months as interim President of Venezuela, during which time he reinstated the Federal Constitution from 1864. After again serving as interim president and Minister of the Interior in 1969, in 1870 he was interim president a third time while Monagas fought the Liberal Revolution. The revolution was successful, and Villegas retired from active politics after ceding the presidency.

2017 Constituent National Assembly Venezuelan Constituent Assembly

The Constituent National Assembly is a constituent assembly elected in 2017 to draft a new constitution for Venezuela. Its members were elected in a special 2017 election that was condemned by over forty mostly Latin American and Western states. The Democratic Unity Roundtable—the opposition to the incumbent ruling party—also boycotted the election claiming that the Constituent Assembly was "a trick to keep [the incumbent ruling party] in power." Caracas drone attack 2018 drone attack on the 46th President of Venezuela

On 4 August 2018, two drones detonated explosives near Avenida Bolívar, Caracas, where Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, was addressing the Bolivarian National Guard in front of the Centro Simón Bolívar Towers and Palacio de Justicia de Caracas. The Venezuelan government claims the event was a targeted attempt to assassinate Maduro, though the cause and intention of the explosions is debated. Others have suggested the incident was a false flag operation designed by the government to justify repression of opposition in Venezuela.

2019 Venezuelan uprising Conflict in Venezuela

On 30 April, during the 2019 Venezuelan presidential crisis, Juan Guaidó led a group of several dozen military personnel and civilians in an uprising against Nicolás Maduro as part of what he called "Operation Freedom". Reuters reported an "uneasy peace" by the afternoon of 30 April. During the uprising, opposition leader Leopoldo López was freed from house arrest after five years imprisoned. The head of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service, Manuel Cristopher, denounced the Maduro government, was dismissed from his position, and went into hiding. At least 25 military men who opposed Maduro sought asylum at the Brazilian embassy in Caracas.
