Modhalum Kaadhalum: Vikram Vedhavin Kaadhal Kadhai is an Indian Tamil-language romance soap opera written by Suresh Shanmugam for Venus Infotainment, [1] [2] starring Ashwathy Ash and Sameer Ahamathu. It is a reboot version of 2014 series Kalyanam Mudhal Kadhal Varai in same channel. [3] The first episode aired on Star Vijay [4] on 24 April 2023 and available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar. [5] [6]

Contents

The story of Vikram (Sameer Ahamathu), an arrogant businessman who is of Telangana origin; and his family's next-door neighbour Vedha (Ashwathy Ash), who is fond of children but cannot have them on her own. They meet each other through Vikram's child, Tanvika, who Vikram is absent from and who has lost her mother. How she unites her potential mother in Vedha, with her busy dad in Vikram, forms the plot. [7]

Plot

Vedha, an ambitious and caring paediatrician, moves with her family to a new home in the city, next to Vikram's flat. Immediately the next door neighbour's, and Vikram's daughter Tanvika starts to bond with her, and Vedha wishes for a child of her own.

Vikram, an arrogant businessman who has just divorced his wife for being disloyal to him, despises love and relationships. He plays a prank on his employee during his wedding, and causes them to doubt each other's trust.

Vedha is invited to her sister-in-law's baby's naming ceremony, where she meets her former fiancé, Siddarth, where we find out that his family cancelled their marriage at the last-minute due to her infertility.

Later, Tanvika wishes to wish her father (Vikram) a happy Mother's Day, and asks Vedha for permission to use her phone. However, Vikram becomes angry when he hears this wish, and shouts at Vedha for giving Tanvika her phone. This marks their first interaction, where Vikram calls her 'atrocious' and Vedha calls him 'arrogant' - this is a running gag throughout the show.

Vikram's absence from Tanvika's life instigates his parents to find a bride willing to marry Vikram and act as a mother for Tanvika. They resort to asking their daughter Nandhini's sister-in-law, Shruthi, to meet them to talk in person. However, Tanvika is upset that Vikram refuses to attend her school ceremony due to being busy in Hyderabad, so asks Vedha to help. She decides to prank Vikram by imitating his mother, as well as her school principial.

After being convinced by Vedha and Tanvi's prank, Vikram comes down from Hyderabad to wish Tanvi a happy birthday and cut her birthday cake with her. However, whilst cutting her cake and looking at Tanvika, he consistently gets flashbacks of her ex-wife, Mrunalini, and struggles to look Tanvi in the eye when feeding her. The next day, Vikram heads down to Tanvi's school, as he wants to talk to the headteacher after the call that he received. Her school principal states that she didn't say that or call him, but reprimands Vikram, saying that he has to take care of Tanvi or else she will feel lonely. They then later participate in sports events together, marking their first visible father-daughter activity and making Tanvi happy. However, whenever Vikram looks at Tanvi, he still gets reminded of Mrunalini and he ends up dropping her.

Vikram, Shruthi and Tanvi are left at home, as Nandhini wants to give Shruthi a chance to impress Vikram, however this backfires as she cooks food for Tanvi and Tanvi gets a stomach upset as a result. Vikram rushes her to a hospital and is told that there is no doctors on call, so they call the pediatrician and Vedha comes and treats Tanvi. Nandhini and the rest of her family are worried wondering where Tanvi and Vikram are and Vedha makes Vikram spend the night with Tanvi.

Vedha is confused, as she feels that Tanvi is missing a 'mother figure' in her life and asks to meet Vikram. Vikram proceeds to brush off the meeting and gets angry at Vedha, telling her to mind her own business and not to go and talk to Mrunalini. He leaves to talk to someone and a loose steel lamp is about to fall on him. Vedha pushes him out of the way, but Vikram slaps her thinking she was trying to get close with him. However, Vedha points the steel lamp out and calls him arrogant, again. A police complaint is filed on behalf of Vedha by the women's union and Vikram is pressed to find a solution to avoid a problem - the police officer suggests an apology being in order. Vikram is initially reluctant to apologise due to their previous quarrels but Vasanth manages to compel him. Vikram meets Vedha at the café where the union leader wants him to apologise, to lighten the blow Vedha says that Vikram is her fiancé. Whilst this occurs, two pairs in Shruthi and Nandhini along with Kaveri and Subramani witness this, both pairs having varied reactions. Shruthi and Nandhini are surprised that Vikram has a fiancé, given his attitude with girls; whilst Kaveri plans on making Vikram her prospective groom. Vikram apologises in front of the union leader and Vedha is satisfied but Vikram leaves hastily in anger. [8]

Later along the line, Vikram and Vedha meet at Sandya's (Vedha's sister-in-law) wedding, where the two trade quips. However, when Kogila decides to insult Vedha for talking with Siddarth privately and misunderstands this, Kaveri boldly claims Vikram as Vedha's fiancé and her prospective groom. Vikram denies this and Vedha is confused - leaving Kaveri humiliated at the wedding hall by Kogila and Gajalakshmi. As a result, she decides to find a new groom for Vedha and she does, a new man called Ranganathan. [9]
