Musculium is a genus of small freshwater clams, aquatic bivalve molluscs in the family Sphaeriidae, the fingernail clams and pea clams. [1]
Species and subgenera within this genera include:
Subgenus Musculium Link, 1807
Subgenus ?
Sphaerius is a genus of beetles, comprising 23 species, which are the only living members of the family Sphaeriusidae. They are typically found along the edges of streams and rivers, where they feed on algae; they occur on all continents except Antarctica. Three species occur in the United States.
Tridacna is a genus of large saltwater clams, marine bivalve molluscs in the subfamily Tridacninae, the giant clams. They have heavy shells, fluted with 4 to 6 folds. The mantle is brightly coloured. They inhabit shallow waters of coral reefs in warm seas of the Indo-Pacific region. These clams are popular in marine aquaria, and in some areas, such as the Philippines, members of the genus are farmed for the marine aquarium trade. They live in symbiosis with photosynthetic algae (zooxanthellae). Some species are eaten by humans.
Donax is a genus of small, edible saltwater clams, marine bivalve molluscs. The genus is sometimes known as bean clams or wedge shells; however, Donax species have numerous different common names in different parts of the world. In the southeastern U.S. they are known as "coquina", a word that is also used for the hard limestone concretions of their shells and those of other marine organisms.
Corbicula is a genus of freshwater and brackish water clams, aquatic bivalve mollusks in the family Cyrenidae, the basket clams. The genus name is the New Latin diminutive of Latin corbis, a basket, referring to the shape and ribs of the shell.
Sphaerium is a genus of very small freshwater clams, aquatic bivalve molluscs in the family Sphaeriidae, known as the fingernail clams. The small clams in this genus are unusual in that many of them, such as Sphaerium corneum, can climb around underwater on aquatic plants, using their long and strong foot.
Musculium lacustre is a species of small freshwater clam, an aquatic bivalve mollusc in the family Sphaeriidae, the fingernail clams and pea clams.
Pisidium moitessierianum is a species of minute freshwater clam. It is an aquatic bivalve mollusc in the family Sphaeriidae.
Pisidium supinum is a species of minute freshwater clam, a pea clam, an aquatic bivalve mollusc in the family Sphaeriidae
Pisidium nitidum, the shining pea clam, is a species of minute freshwater clam, an aquatic bivalve mollusc in the family Sphaeriidae, the pea clams and fingernail clams.
Sphaeriidae is a family of small to minute freshwater bivalve molluscs in the order Sphaeriida. In the US, they are commonly known as pea clams or fingernail clams.
Pisidium is a genus of very small or minute freshwater clams known as pill clams or pea clams, aquatic bivalve molluscs in the family Sphaeriidae, the pea clams and fingernail clams.
Musculium transversum is a species of freshwater bivalve from the family Sphaeriidae.
Anadara is a genus of saltwater bivalves, ark clams, in the family Arcidae. It is also called Scapharca.
The Littorinidae are a taxonomic family of over 200 species of sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Littorinimorpha, commonly known as periwinkles and found worldwide.
William Henry Heard is a malacologist, and an authority on freshwater mollusks, especially freshwater pelecypods (clams). He is an emeritus professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, at Florida State University.
Myolepta is a cosmopolitan genus of hoverflies most closely related to the genus Lepidomyia
Polymesoda is a genus of clams in the family Cyrenidae. They were previously in the family Corbiculidae, before it was subsumed into Cyrenidae.
Thaumastus is a genus of tropical air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Megaspiridae.
Paphia is a genus of saltwater clam, a marine bivalve mollusk in the subfamily Tapetinae of the family Veneridae, the Venus clams.
