NET (originally an initialism of News and Entertainment Television, stylized as NET., also known as NET TV) is an Indonesian free-to-air private-owned television network that was launched on 26 May 2013. It replaced Spacetoon on terrestrial television. [1] The channel's programming is focused towards family and young-adult viewers, with recent programs are geared for children and women audiences. [2] NET airs 24-hours a day. It broadcasts not only through terrestrial television, but also on social medias and YouTube. [3]

History

In 2012, PT Net Mediatama Indonesia was established. In March 2013 the company acquired PT Televisi Anak Spacetoon (Spacetoon) by purchasing 95% of its shares before the company was wholly acquired in May 2013. On 18 May 2013, NET started its trial broadcast using Spacetoon's frequencies on terrestrial television, limiting the latter broadcast to pay television.[ citation needed ]

Programming previously aired by Spacetoon was broadcast on a programming block called "NET Playground" or "NETTOON" that aired Mondays to Fridays afternoon until the block ceased to air a year later, and returned in 15 December 2018 to broadcast Cartoon Network shows, previously carried by Trans TV from 2016 to 2018. On 3 April 2015, NET officially became the main sponsor of the football club Persija Jakarta for two years, during the 2015 Indonesia Super League. [5] The following day, the network was announced as major sponsor of Persija's rival Persib Bandung, also for two years. [6]

Previously, the Premier League was broadcast on NET. during 2019-2021 season replacing TVRI that use license from Mola TV (until 2022) and then SCTV held them since 2021.

NET. received a Suspension on Debt Payment Obligation (PKPU) claim from 25 November 2020 by Bambang Sutrisno. [7] Bambang withdrew the PKPU on 4 December 2020 after NET. paid the Rp2.5 billion debt. [8] Another PKPU claim, this one from PT Seribu Layar Sinema, was withdrawn in January 2021 after NET. paid the Rp13.7 billion debt. [9]

PT Indosiar Visual Mandiri, commonly known as Indosiar, is an Indonesian over-the-air television broadcaster, established on 19 July 1991, with test broadcasts commencing on 18 December 1994, and officially launching on 11 January 1995. It has been owned by Emtek since 2011; it eventually operated under its subsidiary, Surya Citra Media since 1 May 2013, with the network's original owner, Indosiar Karya Media, absorbed into SCM.

Trans TV is an Indonesian free-to-air television broadcaster based in South Jakarta that was launched on December 15, 2001, and is owned by Chairul Tanjung. PT Duta Visual Nusantara Tivi Tujuh, operating as Trans7 or TRANS7 in all capitals is an Indonesian free-to-air television network owned by Trans Media, a part of Trans Corp, which in turn a subsidiary of CT Corp. The channel was officially launched as TV7 on 25 November 2001 at 5:00 PM local time. The final transmission and broadcast aired on 15 December 2006 at 19:00 WIB. The network was then sold by Kompas Gramedia Group and the new owners changed the name from TV7 to Trans7.

Digital terrestrial television in Indonesia (DVB-T2) started in 2009, and in most areas runs alongside the analogue TV system. The first phase of nationwide analog shutdown was done in 166 regencies and cities, including Dumai, Banda Aceh, Batam, Tanjungpinang, Serang, Bali, Samarinda, Tanjung Selor, Tarakan, Makassar and Jayapura, starting on 30 April, 2022 and it simplified in three stages. An analog broadcasting station in Jakarta along with 173 regencies/cities non-terrestrial services was officially signed off on 2 November, 2022 at midnight. Batam, Bandung, Semarang, Surakarta and Yogyakarta followed on 2 December 2022, Surabaya on 20 December, 2022, Banjarmasin on 20 March, 2023, Bali and Palembang on 31 March, 2023, Makassar on 20 June, 2023 and Medan on 30 July, 2023. On 15 July, 2023, at midnight, Trans Media and Emtek/SCM officially completed the shutdown. On 31 July, 2023, at midnight, Viva Group, RTV, and NET TV officially completed the shutdown of analog broadcast nationwide, followed by MNC Group on 1 August, 2023 at midnight. On 12 August, 2023, the digital terrestrial television of Indonesia fully turned, shifted and switched to all high definition on all thirteen local free-to-air terrestrial television station.
