The Gilgit Agency was an agency within the British Indian Empire. It encompassed the subsidiary states of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir situated along the northern border. The primary objective of establishing the Gilgit Agency was to bolster and fortify these regions, particularly in the context of concerns about Russian encroachment in the area. The subsidiary states encompassed Hunza, Nagar and other states in the present day districts of Gupis-Yasin, Ghizer, Darel, Tangir and Diamer. The agency headquarters was based in the town of Gilgit, within the Gilgit tehsil of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rama Lake is a lake located near Astore in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is situated within the Astore Valley, which has a light covering of oak trees and other greenery. As of 2013, the region has been greatly affected by the loss of forest cover, low average rainfall and low vegetation, due in part to widespread illegal logging practices in the valley.
Astore District is a district of Pakistan-administered Gilgit-Baltistan in the disputed Kashmir region. It is one of the 14 districts of the Pakistani-administered territory of Gilgit−Baltistan. Its administrative headquarters are located at Eidgah in the Astore Valley. Astore District is bounded by Gilgit District to the north, Roundu District to the northeast, Skardu District to the east, Kharmang District to the southeast, Diamer District to the west, the Neelum District of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to the southwest, and the Bandipore District of Indian-administered disputed Kashmir region to the south.
Gilgit-Baltistan is an administrative territory of Pakistan in the northern part of the country. It was given self-governing status on August 29, 2009. Gilgit-Baltistan comprises 14 districts within three divisions. The four districts of Skardu Kharmang Shigar and Ghanche are in the Baltistan Division, four districts of Gilgit Ghizer Hunza and Nagar districts which were carved out of Gilgit District are in the Gilgit Division and the third division is Diamir, comprising Chilas and Astore. The main political centres are the towns of Gilgit and Skardu.
Rupal is a village in the Rupal Valley of the Astore District in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It lies to the south of Tarashing village on the west end of Tarashing Glacier. Nanga Parbat and Rakhiot Peak lie northwest of the village and Chongra Peak lies to the north.
The Rupal River is an east–west glacial stream rising from the meltwater of the Rupal Glacier in Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. The stream flows through the Rupal Valley, south of Nanga Parbat, before turning northeast to the village of Tarashing. The Rupal drains into the Astore River, which eventually reaches the Indus near Jaglot.
Chilum or Chilam is a village of Astore District in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is located near the junction of the Deosai Road and the Astore–Srinagar road. There is checkpost nearby, referred to as Chilam Chowki, at 35°2'8"N 75°6'10" E and elevation 3869 m (12696 ft).
Gilgit-Baltistan, formerly known as the Northern Areas, is a region administered by Pakistan as an administrative territory and consists of the northern portion of the larger Kashmir region, which has been the subject of a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947 and between India and China since 1959. Douan, also known as Doyan, is a village in Astore District of Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan. It is located in Astore Valley, at the base of the Himalayas. Doyan is a hill station with a small natural lake at a nearby mountain's top. The road to the village famously has 24 uphill turns. Doyan is named after Dooday Family of Tangir District(citation)required as this pasture was bestowed to them by Maharaja of Kashmir. Doyan was bordering estate of Dogra state of Kashmir with Diamer. Doyan served as base camp for liberation fighters against Dogra state as Molana Abdul Manan led them to Zojila pass with help of local Numberdar Haji Abdul Rahim who provided them logistic support.
Rattu is a small village town of the Astore district in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Rattu has been traditionally used as a route for traders going to Kashmir from Astore, Gilgit and others parts of present-day Gilgit Baltistan. Rattu is known for its delicacies: cumin and trout fish.

Bunji (Urdu:بنجی) is a town in Astore District of Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan. It was historically important, being on the edge of the ancient Yagistan. It was economically a hub for barter trade between Yagistan and Dogras. The distance from Bunji to Gilgit is about 50 kilometres (31 mi) on the Karakoram Highway. Bunji, located at the junction of three Great Mountain Ranges, has its historical importance. The village has its prominent traces in the socio-political and economical situations of the region in History. Literacy rate of bunji is almost 100 percent except outsider coming from other places for jobs. River Indus covers the village from North to west while from eastern side it is connected with river Astore. Baltistan region joins its territory from the North-East.
Muhammad Khalid Khurshid Khan is the President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Gilgit-Baltistan who served as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, a territory in Northern Pakistan until he was disqualified from his post on 4 July 2023 by the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court. He was also a member of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly from 25 November 2020 until his disqualification.
