Central Railway is one of the 18 zones of Indian Railways. Its headquarters is in Mumbai at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. It has the distinction of operating first passenger railway line in India, which opened from Mumbai to Thane on 16 April 1853.

Raigad District is a district in the state of Maharashtra, India. Formerly called the Kolába district, the district was renamed Raigad, after the fort that was the first capital of the former Maratha Empire, which in turn was renamed from its earlier name - Rairi. The fort is located in the interior regions of the district, in dense forests on a west-facing spur of the Western Ghats of Sahyadri Range. In 2011 the district had a population of 2,635,394, compared to 2,207,929 in 2001. The name was changed in the regime of Chief Minister Antule on 1st Jan 1981. In 2011 urban dwellers had increased to 36.91% from 24.22% in 2001.

Numerous nearby waterfalls attract visitors on weekends. Bhivpuri Dam and a hydro-electricity generation plant of Tata Power is located nearby. Neral is the previous stop and Karjat is the next stop. Bhivpuri has state highway which is connecting to NH4, Panvel & Navi Mumbai and the other side connects to Badlapur & Thane District. In Bhivpuri there is one new multi facilities hospital located which covers the area from Shelu, Neral to Karjat.
The Asian Institute of Communication and Research, better known as AICAR Business School or simply AICAR, is a management institute located in Matheran, about 90 minutes from Mumbai in India. AICAR is a residential institute.
Kothaligad (Marathi: कोथळीगड/पेठ चा किल्ला) is a small Fort (3100 ft) is situated to the east of Karjat near Karjat-Murbad Road in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the famous treks in the Karjat area, because of its small height and easy climbing. It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base.

Peb Fort / Vikatgad Fort is a fort located 19km from Karjat, in Raigad district, of Maharashtra. This fort is in continuation with the Malang gad, Tauli Hill and Chanderi fort of the Matheran Hill Range. Vikatgad is a favourite destination for the one day trekkers. The trek path to Vikatgad is along deep ravines and cliffs. Its closeness to Matheran and Neral is attracting a large number of trekkers on weekends. The forest dept. and local villagers are doing plantation and some restoration works on the fort.

The Ambivali Caves, or Ambivali Leni are a group of Buddhist caves, located near Neral, Raigad district, Maharashtra, 8km southeast of Kalyan. The caves are cut in the low hill located on the concave portion of a river. They consist in 12 viharas celles with verandah and several water cisterns. There is one inscription in Brahmi script on a verandah pillar.
