The 12313 / 12314 Sealdah Rajdhani Express is a Rajdhani class train of Indian Railways which connects the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata to the National Capital of India, New Delhi through Sealdah. It is the third Rajdhani Express class train connecting Delhi and Kolkata and is the second-fastest connection between these two cities by rail. [1]
Owing to the high demands of the passengers plying between Delhi and Kolkata and to ease down the existing pressure of bookings on the Howrah Rajdhani Express, Indian Railways decided to introduce another Rajdhani Class train between these two cities. Since Howrah Division of Eastern Railways already had two existing Rajdhani Express trains, thus Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway was awarded with third Rajdhani Express to West Bengal. Hence on 1 July 2000, the first Sealdah Rajdhani Express left for New Delhi from Sealdah for its maiden journey. [2]
On 23 August 2006, the coaches of Sealdah Rajdhani Express were upgraded to LHB coaches replacing the older ICF coaches.
It is hauled by a Howrah based WAP-7 (HOG) equipped locomotive from end to end. Recently(since 2024), it is hauled occasionally by a Sealdah based WAP-7 (HOG)

The train can reach its maximum allowed speed of 130 km/h, except for two specific sections. One is the 29 km stretch between New Delhi (NDLS) and Chipyana Buzurg (CPYZ), where the Railway is endeavoring to increase the maximum allowed speed from 110 km/h to 130 km/h. The other section is Gurpa to Gujhandi near Koderma, comprising a 22 km long ghat portion where trains are permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Within tunnels, the speed limit is further reduced to 65 km/h. Additionally, trains briefly touch speeds of 100 km/h over a short distance of approximately 3 km. Sometimes, the train also reaches speed of 140 km/h which were also recorded by many vloggers on Youtube.
In 2019, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) recommended to the government the augmentation of the existing maximum permissible speed of the Delhi – Howrah route from 130 kmph to 160 kmph, with the aim of enhancing average speed by a minimum of 60% to facilitate quicker connectivity and trade. In alignment with this directive, the Railway Board approved a project budgeted at Rs. 6,865 crore under the Indian Railway’s Mission Raftaar initiative. The project's objective is to elevate the maximum permissible speed of both the Delhi – Howrah and Kanpur – Lucknow routes to 160 kmph by the timeline of 2022-2023. However, there has been no specific update on the progress of the project to date. [3]
The 12433 / 12434 Chennai Central – Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express is an important train connecting Chennai & New Delhi. According to 1997-98 railway budget, pantry car service was introduced on 2633/2634 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Chennai Rajdhani Express in 1996-97 and maybe it was introduced then (1996–97). Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express used to terminate at Madras (Chennai) Central and presently avoids Chennai and it is older than the current Chennai Rajdhani Express and this Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express was first introduced in 1993 and runs twice a week from Delhi and twice from Chennai. The Chennai Rajdhani is a fast alternative to the classic Grand Trunk Express and the modern Superfast Tamil Nadu Express. The Chennai Rajdhani Express covers a distance of 2176 kilometers in 28 hours 10 minutes as compared to 33 hours and 5 min covered by Tamil Nadu Express and 35 hours and 15 minutes taken by Grand Trunk Express. It shares the record of being the second fastest train between Chennai Central and Hazrat Nizamuddin covering the distance of 2175 km in 28 hours and 10 minutes as Chennai Duronto covering the 2,175 km journey in 27 hours and 55 minutes but in return it does not happen.
The 12393 / 12394 Sampoorna Kranti Express is an Indian Railways Superfast passenger train service, which runs between Rajendra Nagar, Patna and New Delhi. The service began running on 16 February 2002 and is one of the fastest train services in India, traversing the 1001-kilometre distance in under 12 hours, which puts it with likes of Patna Rajdhani Express, Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, Agartala Rajdhani Express, Howrah Rajdhani Express. It is faster than the Shramjeevi Superfast Express, Magadh Express and Vikramshila Express on the same route. This train is also known as "Aam Janta ki Rajdhani" as its fare is less than that of Rajdhani Express but matches it in speed and punctuality. It is quicker than few Premier Rajdhani Express Trains on Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–New Delhi section.

The 12273/74 Howrah–New Delhi Duronto Express is a Duronto class train which operates between the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata and the national capital New Delhi. It is the second Duronto Express connecting Delhi to Kolkata, the other one being the Sealdah–Bikaner Duronto Express. Most of the other Duronto trains take less travel time than their Rajdhani counterparts. Therefore, before the introduction of the Howrah Duronto, it was expected to be the fastest service on the route by many Indian railfans. The Rajdhani Express gets top-most priority on the route, making it the fastest train in the Howrah–Delhi route. But, the Rajdhani continues to be the fastest as both trains cover the same distance and despite being a non-stop service, with no commercial halts, the Duronto takes more time than the Rajdhani. It has been running with modern LHB rakes since 2 July 2021, having a maximum permissible speed of 130 km/h, thus replacing the hybrid LHB Rakes which have a maximum permissible speed of 120 km/h.
The 12259 / 12260 Sealdah - Bikaner Duronto Express is a premium train of the Duronto Express category belonging to Indian Railways - Eastern Railway zone that runs between Sealdah and Bikaner in India.It operates as train number 12259 from Sealdah to Bikaner and as train number 12260 in the reverse direction serving the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. It used to run as New Delhi - Sealdah Duronto Express and was the first Duronto Express to be launched as announced in the Railway budget of 2008/09. Mumbai–New Delhi Duronto Express, also known as Mumbai AC Duronto Express, is a 16 Coached fully air-conditioned, non-stop version of Duronto-type service running between Mumbai Central and New Delhi. It is one of the fastest train to connect Maharashtra to Delhi. It is maintained by Western Railways (WR), Mumbai division. This train did not make any commercial halts in the past, but now does at Vadodara, Ratlam and Kota. In the up direction, from New Delhi to Mumbai, the service runs with train number 22210 and in down direction, from Mumbai to New Delhi, as train number 22209. Post extension of Sealdah–New Delhi Duronto to Bikaner, this train is currently the fastest Duronto Express in Indian Railways.
