Noé González Alcoba (born 12 May 1979) "the coal-miner" is an Uruguayan boxer and a former world title challenger. [1] He fights in the super middleweight division, having boxed at middleweight previously.

Professional career

Having boxed mainly in Argentina and Uruguay for much of his early career, he managed to land a shot at the WBA World Middleweight title after only 14 fights, challenging the then world champion Felix Sturm in Germany. The German proved too classy however and won the fight by a wide points decision, earning Alcoba his first career defeat.

World Boxing Association organization

The World Boxing Association (WBA), formerly known as the National Boxing Association (NBA) is the oldest and one of four major organizations which sanction professional boxing bouts, alongside the IBF, WBC, and WBO. The WBA awards its world championship title at the professional level. Founded in the United States in 1921 by thirteen state representatives as the NBA, in 1962 it changed its name in recognition of boxing's growing popularity worldwide, and began to gain other nations as members.

Felix Sturm German boxer

Adnan Ćatić, best known as Felix Sturm, is a German former professional boxer who competed from 2001 to 2016. He held multiple world championships in two weight classes, including the WBO middleweight title from 2003 to 2004, the WBA middleweight title twice between 2006 and 2012, the IBF middleweight title from 2013 to 2014, and the WBA (Super) super-middleweight title in 2016.

Alcoba continued to box in Uruguay and Argentina, acquiring an impressive knockout ration and capturing the vacant WBO Latino middleweight title in his 19th bout. He disposed of former WBA middleweight title holder Mariano Natalio Carrera in four rounds, also boxing in the United States to stop rated Mexican middleweight Michi Munoz in six before stepping up to super middleweight to win the WBC Silver belt by a 3rd-round stoppage of a former Mexican middleweight champion Gustavo Magallanes. After a first successful defense of the belt in a bout against Mexican Ruben Padilla, he lost the second defense, suffering his 2nd professional defeat in a 2-round stoppage loss to world title contender and knockout artist Adonis "Superman" Stevenson in Montreal, Canada.

Mariano Natalio Carrera is an Argentine boxer, who represented his native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Jorge Michael Muñoz, more commonly known as Michi Muñoz is a Mexican-born American professional boxer from Topeka, Kansas who is known as "the Mexican Sensation" who fights in the middleweight division.

World Boxing Council organization

The World Boxing Council (WBC) is one of four major organizations which sanction world championship boxing bouts, alongside the International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). Many historically high-profile bouts have been sanctioned by the organization with various legendary fighters having been recognised as WBC World champions. All four organizations recognise the legitimacy of each other, and each have interwoven histories dating back several decades.

Following the Stevenson loss he has recovered in style, earning two 1st-round knockout wins. He lost in his latest fight to unbeaten British prospect George Groves [2] by 5th round technical knockout on the Froch vs. Kessler bill in May.

George Groves (boxer) boxer

George Groves is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2008 to 2018. He held the WBA (Super) super-middleweight title from 2017 to 2018, and previously the European, British, and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles between 2010 and 2014. As an amateur, Groves won the ABA middleweight title twice in 2007 and 2008.

Carl Froch English professional boxer

Carl Martin Froch, is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2002 to 2014, and has since worked as a boxing analyst and commentator for Sky Sports. He held multiple super-middleweight world championships, including the WBC title twice between 2008 and 2011, the IBF title from 2012 to 2015, and the WBA (Unified) title from 2013 to 2015. At regional level he held the British, Commonwealth, and English super-middleweight titles, and won the Lonsdale Belt in 2006. As an amateur in the middleweight division, Froch won a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships, and the ABA title twice.

Mikkel Kessler Danish boxer

Mikkel Kessler is a Danish former professional boxer who competed from 1998 to 2013. He is a multiple-time super-middleweight world champion, having held the WBA title three times between 2004 and 2013, and the WBC title twice between 2006 and 2010.
