Following each National Football League (NFL) season, the Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) compiles an honorary All-Rookie Team to recognize that season's most outstanding rookies at each position as adjudged by sportswriters of the PFWA. The Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA), sometimes known as Pro Football Writers Association, is an organization that purports to be "[the] official voice of pro football writers, promoting and fighting for access to NFL personnel to best serve the public." Goals of the organization include improving access to practices and locker rooms, developing working relationships with all teams, and ensuring that football writers are treated in a professional manner. By the mid-2000s the group consisted of over 300 writers, editors, and columnists who cover pro football. The PFWA also issue several awards and honors following each NFL season.

All-Pro is an honor bestowed upon professional American football players that designates the best player at each position during a given season. All-Pro players are typically selected by press organizations, who select an "All-Pro team," a list that consists of at least 22 players, one for each offensive and defensive position, plus various special teams players depending on the press organization that compiles the list. All-Pro lists are exclusively limited to the major leagues, usually only the National Football League; in the past, other leagues recognized as major, such as the American Football League of the 1960s or the All-America Football Conference of the 1940s, have been included in All-Pro lists.

Matthew Slater American football special teamer

Matthew Wilson Slater is an American football special teamer for the New England Patriots. He played college football at UCLA, and was drafted by the Patriots in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. A three-time Super Bowl champion, Slater has made nine Pro Bowls as a special teamer gunner and is widely recognized to be one of the NFL's premier players at that position.

The Associated Press and Sporting News named first and second-team selections. The AP team was selected by a national panel of 50 NFL writers. The Sporting News selection process consisted of a players' poll, making it "The Players' All-Pro Team". The PFWA All-NFL team is based on a poll of its more than 300 members.

Aaron Donald American football defensive tackle

Aaron Charles Donald is an American football defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Pittsburgh, where he was recognized as a unanimous All-American. He was drafted by the Rams with the thirteenth pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He has been selected to seven Pro Bowls in his seven years into the league, won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and has been named AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times, having won it back-to-back in 2017 and 2018, and again in 2020. Donald has been cited as one of the greatest defensive tackles of all time.

Joey Bosa American football defensive end

Joseph Anthony Bosa is an American football defensive end for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Ohio State, and was selected by the Chargers third overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was named AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016.

Ethan Pocic American football guard

Ethan Pocic is an American football center for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Louisiana State University. Pocic has also played the guard position.

The 2016 All-Pro teams were named by the Associated Press (AP), Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA), and Sporting News (SN) for performance in the 2016 NFL season. While none of the All-Pro teams have the official imprimatur of the NFL, they are included in the NFL Record and Fact Book and also part of the language of the 2011 NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Any player selected to the first-team of any of the teams can be described as an "All-Pro." The AP team, with first-team and second-team selections, was chosen by a national panel of fifty NFL writers and broadcasters. For the first time, the nationwide panel of 60 sports writers and broadcasters who regularly cover the NFL voted for specific positions on the offensive line, a "flex" player on offense, a fifth defensive back, and a punt returner and special teamer. The Sporting News All-NFL team is voted on by NFL players and executives and will be released at a later date. Daron Payne, is an American football defensive tackle for the Washington Football Team of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Alabama and was drafted by Washington, then known as the Redskins, in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Chase Young American football player

Chase Young is an American football defensive end for the Washington Football Team of the National Football League (NFL). Born and raised in Maryland, he played college football for the Buckeyes at Ohio State University from 2017 to 2019. He broke the school's single-season sack record with 16.5 in his final season, when he was voted a unanimous All-American and won several defensive player of the year awards. He was also named the Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, a rare honor for a defensive player. He was selected by Washington second overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year after leading all rookies in several statistical categories.

Damien Stephon Lewis Sr. is an American football offensive guard for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at LSU. He was drafted as the 69th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Mob Squad (American football)

The Mob Squad is a nickname that was officially used by the Rams of the National Football League during both their last season in St. Louis and their first seasons back in Los Angeles. The team only used the moniker in official branding and merchandising from 2015 to 2018, but many fans and third party media outlets still use the term to refer to the team to this day, as most of the core players have remained on the roster. The Mob Squad era has been defined by defensive tackle Aaron Donald, the team's 2014 first-round selection who has won multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards and is widely considered the best defensive player in the league; quarterback Jared Goff, selected first overall in the 2016 draft with multiple Pro-Bowl selections; and Todd Gurley, the team's 2015 first-round selection and star Pro-Bowler running back until his 2019 departure. The Rams have also been home to many other skilled players during this period, such as Cooper Kupp, Brandin Cooks, and Robert Woods, among others. The Mob Squad has defined the period of transition from St. Louis as well as the quick rise to prominence the team experienced in Los Angeles under head coach Sean McVay.
