K2, at 8,611 metres (28,251 ft) above sea level, is the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest. It lies in the Karakoram range, partially in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir and partially in a China-administered territory of the Kashmir region included in the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang.
Mountaineering, or alpinism, is the set of outdoor activities that involves ascending tall mountains. Mountaineering-related activities include traditional outdoor climbing, skiing and traversing via ferratas. Indoor climbing, sport climbing and bouldering are also considered variants of mountaineering by some.
Alexander Huber, is a German climber and mountaineer. He became a professional mountaineer in 1997, and was one of the most successful climbers and mountaineers of the 2000s. While being an all-round climber, Huber is most famous for his bold free ascents of big walls, and his expeditions in the Pakistan, Antarctica, and Greenland.
The Trango Towers are a family of rock towers situated in Gilgit-Baltistan, in the north of Pakistan. The Towers offer some of the largest cliffs and most challenging rock climbing in the world, and every year a number of expeditions from all corners of the globe visit Karakoram to climb the difficult granite. They are located north of Baltoro Glacier, and are part of the Baltoro Muztagh, a sub-range of the Karakoram range. The highest point in the group is the summit of Great Trango Tower at 6,286 m (20,623 ft), the east face of which features the world's greatest nearly vertical drop.

Central Karakoram National Park is a national park located in Skardu district of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. It encompasses some of the world’s highest peaks and largest glaciers. Internationally renowned for mountaineering, rock climbing and trekking opportunities, it covers an area of about 10,000 sq. km and contains the greatest concentration of high mountains on earth. It has four peaks over 8,000 m including K2 (8611 m), Gasherbrum-I (8068 m), Gasherbrum-II (8035 m) and Broad Peak (8051 m), and sixty peaks higher than 7,000 m. The park was placed on the World Heritage Site Tentative List in 2016.
Uli Biaho is a mountain near Trango Towers and Baltoro Glacier in the Gilgit–Baltistan area of Pakistan. It consists of two main peaks, Uli Biaho Tower ; and Uli Biaho Peak, which as of 2006 was unclimbed.
Malika Parbat is the highest peak in Kaghan Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) south of Lake Saiful Muluk, near Ansoo Lake.
Wojciech Kurtyka is a Polish mountaineer and rock climber, one of the pioneers of the alpine style of climbing the biggest walls in the Greater Ranges. He lived in Wrocław up to 1974 when he moved to Kraków. He graduated as engineer in electronics. In 1985 he climbed the "Shining Wall" Gasherbrum IV, which Climbing magazine declared to be the greatest achievement of mountaineering in the twentieth century. In 2016, he received the Piolet d'Or for lifetime achievement in mountaineering.

John Roskelley is an American mountain climber and author from Spokane, Washington. He made first ascents and notable ascents of 7,000-meter and 8,000-meter peaks in Nepal, India, and Pakistan.
Hassan Sadpara PP was a Pakistani mountaineer and adventurer from Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. He is the first Pakistani to have climbed six eight-thousanders including the world's highest peak Everest (8848m), K2 (8611m), Gasherbrum I (8080m), Gasherbrum II (8034m), Nanga Parbat and Broad Peak (8051m). He is also credited for summiting five of the eight-thousanders without using supplemental oxygen. Contrary to initial reports, Hassan Sadpara clarified that he used supplemental oxygen during his Everest ascent due to bad weather.
Samina Khayal Baig is a Pakistani high-altitude mountaineer who in 2013 climbed Mount Everest and then all Seven Summits by 2014. She is the first Pakistani woman to climb Everest and the Seven Summits. She climbed Mt. Everest at the age of 21.
Hossein Bolandakhtar is one of the best-known mountaineers and ski tourers in Iran. His professional career as a climber started at age 20 in central Alborz range. He has been working as a coach at the Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran for several years and is known to have trained several popular climbers in rock and ice climbing.
Sarwali Peak, also known as Dabbar Peak and Toshe Ri is actually Toshain-I which at an altitude of 6,326 metres (20,755 ft) above sea level at the junction of the Neelam and Shounter Valleys in Pakistan administered Kashmir, Pakistan at on Toshain/Rupal Glacier towering in Rupal Valley of Nanga Parbat. It is the highest point in Pakistan administered Kashmir. The Kashmir Tourism Department sent an expedition in 2004, but there has been no documented successful ascent of the peak. The ridge line that forms Toshain walls houses Toshain II, Toshain III, Toshain IV and Toshain V, which all are technical in nature and heavily glaciated. Three Islamabad based climbers named Imran Juanidi, Usman Tariq and Khurram Rajput tried to reach the summit but went missing on 31 August 2015 and, despite search and rescue effort, could not be found.
Imran Junaidi was a rock climber and mountaineer from Islamabad, Pakistan. He is best known for first Pakistani ascent of Malika Parbat, and a new route on little Trango in the Trango group. In 2015 Junaidi along with two other teammates went missing while on an expedition in the Himalayan mountains in Kashmir. A search operation was initiated which ended after about three weeks without any success. Junaidi was 33.
Qudrat Ali is a Pakistani mountaineer. He is also the co-founder and instructor in Shimshal Mountaineering School, and is a member of the Alpine Club.
