Dar es Salaam is the largest city and financial hub of Tanzania. It is also the capital of the Dar es Salaam Region. With a population of over five million people,Dar es Salaam is the largest city in East Africa and the sixth-largest in Africa. Located on the Swahili coast,Dar es Salaam is an important economic center and one of the fastest-growing cities in the world.

Bongo Flava is a nickname for Tanzanian music. The genre developed in the 1990s,mainly as a derivative of American hip hop and traditional Tanzanian styles such as taarab and dansi,with additional influences from reggae,R&B,and afrobeats,to form a unique style of music. Lyrics are usually in Swahili or English,although increasingly from mid 2000s there has been limited use of words from Sub-Saharan African music traditions due to the influence of Afrobeats and Kwaito with their dynamics usage of West African Pidgin English,Nigerian Pidgin or other Creole language.
Tanzanian Hip-hop,which is sometimes referred to Bongo Flava by many outside of Tanzania's hip hop community,encompasses a large variety of different sounds,but it is particularly known for heavy synth riffs and an incorporation of Tanzanian pop.
The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is a public university located in Ubungo District,Dar es Salaam Region,Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university became an affiliate of the University of East Africa (UEA) in 1963,shortly after Tanzania gained its independence from the United Kingdom. In 1970,UEA split into three independent universities:Makerere University in Uganda,the University of Nairobi in Kenya,and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
Following Tanganyika's independence (1961) and unification with Zanzibar (1964),leading to the formation of the state of Tanzania,President Julius Nyerere emphasised a need to construct a national identity for the citizens of the new country. To achieve this,Nyerere provided what has been regarded by some commentators as one of the most successful cases of ethnic repression and identity transformation in Africa.
As of 2021,there are 31 regions of Tanzania which are divided into 184 districts.
Lesbian,gay,bisexual,and transgender (LGBT) people in Tanzania face severe challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Homosexuality in Tanzania is a socially taboo topic,and same-sex sexual acts are criminal offences,punishable with life imprisonment. The law also criminalises heterosexuals who engage in oral sex and anal intercourse.
Ijombe is an administrative ward in the Mbeya Rural district of the Mbeya Region of Tanzania. In 2016 the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics report there were 11,225 people in the ward,from 10,185 in 2012.

General elections were held in Tanzania on 25 October 2015. Voters elected the president,members of Parliament,and local government councillors. By convention,the election was held on the last Sunday of October and was supervised by the National Electoral Commission (NEC). Political campaigns commenced on 22 August and ceased a day before the elections.
Sibongile Ndashe is a South African lawyer and human rights activist. She has been involved in public interest law since 1999 and has worked for several women's rights and human rights organisations. She founded the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) in 2014 and has worked to help lawyers across Africa bring cases to court involving gender identity and sexual orientation. She supports the incremental decriminalisation of homosexuality. In October 2017 she was arrested in Tanzania on charges of "promoting homosexuality" whilst discussing ways to challenge a ban on HIV/AIDS treatment by private health clinics.
Anna Aloys Henga is a Tanzanian lawyer and human rights activist who is known for her social services including women empowerment initiatives such as coordinating anti-female genital mutilation in Tanzania. She became the executive director of Legal and Human Rights Center in 2018.
Leila Sheikh or Sheikh-Hashim was a Tanzanian journalist,women's rights activist and blogger. She was a founder member of Tanzania Media Women's Association (TAMWA) and became TAMWA's Executive Director in 1996.
Miss Grand Tanzania was a Tanzanian female national beauty pageant,founded in 2017 by a Dar es Salaam-based legal counsel,Rasheedah Jamaldin. The winner of the contest represented the country in its international parent contest,Miss Grand International. Jamaldin terminated her partnership with Miss Grand International Limited in late 2018 after her both affiliated representatives were unplaced two years in a row. Previously,from 2014 to 2015,the competition license belonged to a businessperson,Veronika Rovegno,but all country representatives during that period were appointed.
