Popular Democracy (United Left) (Italian : Democrazia Popolare (Sinistra Unita)) was a political organization in Italy. DP(SU) was formed on January 21, 2000 after a split from the Communist Refoundation Party. DP(SU) published a theoretical journal called Democrazia Popolare. The secretary of DP(SU) was Michele Capuano.

Italian language Romance language

Located in the middle of the Mediterranean sea and traversed along its length by the Apennines, Italy has a largely temperate seasonal climate. The country covers an area of 301,340 km2 (116,350 sq mi) and shares open land borders with France, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and the enclaved microstates of Vatican City and San Marino. Italy has a territorial exclave in Switzerland (Campione) and a maritime exclave in the Tunisian sea (Lampedusa). With around 60 million inhabitants, Italy is the fourth-most populous member state of the European Union.

Communist Refoundation Party Italian political party

The Communist Refoundation Party is a communist political party in Italy that emerged from a split of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in 1991. The party's secretary is Maurizio Acerbo, who replaced Paolo Ferrero in 2017. Armando Cossutta was the party's founder, while Fausto Bertinotti its longest-serving leader (1994–2008). The latter transformed the PRC from a traditional communist party into a collector of radical social movements.

On July 17, 2004 DP(SU) merged into the Party of Italian Communists.

The Party of Italian Communists was a communist party in Italy founded in October 1998 as a split from the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC) led by Armando Cossutta, the founder and early leader of the PRC. In December 2014, the party was transformed into Communist Party of Italy (PCd'I), which would later evolve into the re-edition of the Italian Communist Party (PCI).
