In Bahrain, the king directly appoints the prime minister, who is the country's head of government. The constitution doesn't require the prime minister to be an elected member of the Council of Representatives.

Since becoming independent, Bahrain has only had two prime ministers: Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the king's paternal uncle, and Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the crown prince. Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa died on 11 November 2020. [3]

Before becoming prime minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa held the positions of deputy king, crown prince, and heir apparent. [4] He served as the First Deputy Prime Minister from March 2013 until November 2020. [5]

The current deputy prime minister is Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. [6]

The House of Khalifa is the ruling family of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Al Khalifas profess Sunni Islam and belong to the Anizah tribe. Some members of this tribe joined the Utub alliance which migrated from Najd in central Arabia to Kuwait, then ruled all of Qatar, more specifically Al Zubarah, which they built and ruled over before settling in Bahrain in the early 17th century. The current head of the family is Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who became the Emir of Bahrain in 1999 and proclaimed himself King of Bahrain in 2002, in fact becoming a constitutional monarch.

Shaikha Hala bint D'aij Al Khalifa was the former wife of Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, until 2005. Hala was the youngest daughter of D'aij bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance & National Economy. She was the Honorary President of the Information Centre for Women & Children, and Chair of the Bahrain Society for Mental Retardation.

Bahrain Polytechnic is a government-owned tertiary education institute located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It has been established by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; King of Bahrain by Royal Decree in July 2008. It is considered a key initiative for the Education and Training Development Committee; a project of the Bahrain Vision 2030 master plan that aims to achieve a sustainable economy. Bahrain Polytechnic delivers applied learning, technical education, skills-based and occupational training. Degrees offered range from certificate courses, diplomas, to bachelor's degree levels.

The Cabinet of Bahrain is the chief executive body of the Kingdom of Bahrain. According to Article 32 (b) of the 2002 Constitution, "executive authority is vested in the King together with the Council of Ministers and Ministers". The Council of Ministers (Cabinet) is appointed directly by the King . Bahrain has had only two Prime Ministers since the country's independence in 1971, Khalifah ibn Sulman al-Khalifah, the uncle of the reigning King Hamad ibn Isa al-Khalifah. Khalifah ibn Sulman al-Khalifah died on 11 November 2020, and was succeeded by the King's son, Crown Prince Salman. As of 2010, roughly half of the cabinet ministers have been selected from the Al Khalifa family, including the Minister of Defence, Minister of Interior, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs.

The National Guard of Bahrain is separate military force from the Bahrain Defence Force. The National Guard is charged with internal security and assisting the Bahrain Defence Force in defending against external threats. It was established in 1997, through a royal decree by then Emir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said is the Crown Prince of Oman as the oldest son of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. Since 2020, Theyazin has served as the minister of culture, youth and sports.

The Order of Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa is a Bahraini order of merit. It is the highest decoration in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is named after Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the former Emir of Bahrain.

The 2005 Arab League summit, officially 17th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level, was a regular summit that was held in Algiers, Algeria in March 2005.
