This is a list of winners and nominees of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. Prior to 1988 the category was not gender specific, thus was called Outstanding Guest Performer in a Comedy Series. These awards, like the other "Guest" awards, are not presented at the Primetime Emmy Award ceremony, but rather at the Creative Arts Emmy Award ceremony.
The Primetime Emmy Awards – part of a wide range of Emmy Awards – are bestowed by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS), in recognition of excellence in U.S. American primetime television programming. The award categories are divided into three classes: the regular Primetime Emmy Awards, the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards to honor technical and other similar behind-the-scenes achievements, and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards for recognizing significant contributions to the engineering and technological aspects of television. First given out in 1949, the award was originally referred to as simply the "Emmy Award" until the International Emmy Award and the Daytime Emmy Award were created in the early 1970s to expand the Emmy to other sectors of the television industry.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour) is an annual award presented as part of the Primetime Emmy Awards. It was created as Outstanding Cinematography for a Half-Hour Series, incorporating both single and multi-camera programs, in 2008 alongside Outstanding Cinematography for a One Hour Series. From 2011 to 2016, the awards were combined as Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series.
This is a list of winners and nominees of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series. This award and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series replaced Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Series in 2003.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) is a category at the Primetime Emmy Awards. It is awarded annually to the singularly best pre-recorded varietal, musical or comedic special of the year. It was previously presented as Outstanding Variety Special until it was restructured alongside Outstanding Special Class Program for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program is an award handed out annually at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program is an award handed out annually at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. In 2014, the category was created alongside Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period Program and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for Variety Special is awarded to one television special each year. After being grouped together, the category was initiated alongside Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series in 2009. From the 1980s to 2000s, specials competed alongside series for Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation is an award handed out annually at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
This is a list of winners and nominees of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program. From 2000 until 2019, the award was presented as Outstanding Makeup for a Multi-Camera Series or Special (Non-Prosthetic) before being renamed.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety, Reality or Competition Series is awarded to one television series each year. Prior to 2016, specials and series competed together. Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special now separately recognizes specials.
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lighting Design / Lighting Direction for a Variety Special is awarded to one television special each year. Prior to 2011, the award was bestowed as Outstanding Lighting Direction for Variety, Music or Comedy Programming and included both series and specials.
The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will honor the best in American prime time television programming from June 1, 2021, until May 31, 2022, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). The awards ceremony is planned to be held live on September 12, 2022, and will be preceded by the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 3 and 4, at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California. The ceremony will be broadcast in the United States on NBC, occurring on a Monday to accommodate NBC's Sunday Night Football coverage. Nominations were announced on July 12, 2022. The ceremony will be produced through Done and Dusted and Hudlin Entertainment, and will be directed by Hamish Hamilton. Kenan Thompson will serve as host for the event.
The 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards will honor the best in artistic and technical achievement in American prime time television programming from June 1, 2021, until May 31, 2022, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The awards will be presented across two nights on September 3 and 4, 2022. The ceremonies will be broadcast in the United States by FXX on September 10.
