Project Mugen is an upcoming free-to-play urban open world role-playing video game from Hangzhou and Montreal [1] Naked Rain (a NetEase Games studio). [2] It was announced on August 24, 2023 at Gamescom.
Featuring cell-shaded anime-like aesthetics, with day and night cycles, the game is set in a mystic urban open world, where each city is populated with pedestrians and foes. [1] The game's first city, called Nova Inception Urbs is designed in a Japanese urban style. Other cities will become available later with European and American inspirations. The player can travel around the world between cities. Each city is procedurally generated by stitching multiple manually pre-designed areas such as beaches, public or amusement parks, and factories. [3] The character can pick up cats, play mini-games, and interact with all objects in the city especially in combat. [4]
The game starts with a team of characters named Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila. Other characters may later join the team. [1]
The player can swim [4] in water or navigate the city by running, riding bikes or cars, climbing walls, doing parkour, grappling and swinging between skyscrapers using ropes similar to Spider-Man. [1] Traverse is fast-paced and requires no stamina. Some characters have unique traverse styles. For example, Taffy's hammer can turn into a bike she can ride. [3] The player can take on various quests and challenges to recover lost memories and unlock various abilities that can help progress in each character's story, culminating into a final plot involving battles against a villain. [1]
The player navigates and fights in the city as one character, but can switch between a team of four characters during major battle events and boss fights. Each character has unique stats and abilities which may synergize with teammates. The entire team can also equip an extra buff or major ability such crowd control or telekinesis. [3]
The player is cast in the role of a top supernatural investigator known as an “Infinite Trigger”, looking into anomalies and paranormal events. All main characters and some NPCs are "Espers", people with supernatural abilities. Each Esper has a unique story the player can experience, in which the character fights a force called "Chaos" that threatens humanity. [1]
The game is currently being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, [5] Android, and iOS. [1] It is being developed in Chinese, Japanese and English with the intent to add more language and localization options. No release date window or monetization plan has been planned yet, as the developers are currently focused on game design and content creation. [3]
Mugen is a freeware 2D fighting game engine designed by Elecbyte. Content is created by the community, and thousands of fighters, both original and from popular fiction, have been created. It is written in C and originally used the Allegro library. The latest versions of the engine use the SDL library. The engine takes its name from the Japanese word 無限.

The “gamescom - Opening Night Live” (ONL) show takes place every year on the evening before the opening. Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals, released as Estpolis: The Lands Cursed by the Gods (エストポリス) in Japan, is an action role-playing game video game co-developed by Neverland and Square Enix for the Nintendo DS. Joe Danger 2: The Movie is a racing and platform video game developed by Hello Games for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and PlayStation Vita. According to Hello Games's managing director, it is "kind of" a sequel to the successful Joe Danger. The game was announced in August 2011 and released for Xbox 360 on 14 September 2012, and 9 October 2012 for PlayStation 3. A Microsoft Windows version was released 24 June 2013, followed by Mac OS X and Linux on 7 January 2014, and PlayStation Vita in January 2015. The game centers around the titular character, stuntman Joe Danger, as he performs stunts for an action film. It features multiple vehicle types, and has local multiplayer for up to four players.

Evolve is a first-person shooter video game developed by Turtle Rock Studios and published by 2K. Evolve uses an asymmetrical multiplayer structure, where five players—four playing as hunters and one as the monster—battle against each other on an industrialized alien planet called Shear. The hunters' gameplay is based on the first-person shooter design, while the monsters are controlled from a third-person perspective. The hunters' goal is to eliminate the monster, while the monster's goal is to consume wildlife and evolve to make themselves stronger before either eliminating the hunters, or successfully destroying the objective.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a 2017 action-adventure game developed by Arkane Lyon and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is a standalone expansion pack following Dishonored 2, and was released 15 September 2017 for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. The game takes place in the coastal city of Karnaca after the events of the previous title. It follows the former assassin Billie Lurk as she reunites with her mentor Daud to kill the mysterious entity known as The Outsider. The game is played from a first-person perspective and the player has access to a variety of supernatural abilities to complete missions in a multitude of ways, from stealth to purposeful violent conflict.
Concrete Genie is an action-adventure video game developed by Pixelopus and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. The game was announced at Sony's PlayStation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week 2017 on October 30, 2017, and was released on October 8, 2019. It received generally favourable reviews from critics. The game is also the final game released by Pixelopus before their closure in June 2023.
Humankind is a turn-based strategy 4X video game by Amplitude Studios and published by Sega. The game was released for Microsoft Windows and Stadia in August 2021, and for macOS in November 2021. It received generally favorable reviews. It was scheduled to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in November 2022 but was delayed indefinitely due to “unique porting challenges”, eventually releasing in August 2023.
Dishonored is a series of action-adventure games developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The franchise started in 2012 with Dishonored. A sequel, Dishonored 2 was released in 2016. A standalone expansion to Dishonored 2, Death of the Outsider, was released in 2017. A follow-up which takes place in the same universe, Deathloop was released in 2021.
