Rankin Inlet South (Inuktitut : ᑲᖏᕐᒃᖠᓂᐅᑉ ᓂᒋᐊ, [1] French : Rankin Inlet Sud, [1] Inuinnaqtun: Kangirliniq Hivuraa) [1] is a territorial electoral district (riding) for the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut, Canada. [2]
The riding consists of part of Rankin Inlet. The district was created prior to the 28 October 2013 general election. The community used to be in Rankin Inlet South/Whale Cove. [3]
The election resulted in a tie and a recount was held November 5. This confirmed the tie, [4] forcing a by-election on February 10, 2014 which was won by Alexander Sammurtok. [5]

Rankin Inlet is an Inuit hamlet on Kudlulik Peninsula in Nunavut, Canada. It is the largest hamlet and second-largest settlement in Nunavut, after the territorial capital, Iqaluit. On the northwestern Hudson Bay, between Chesterfield Inlet and Arviat, it is the regional centre for the Kivalliq Region.
Jack Iyerak Anawak is a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Nunatsiaq in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1997. He sat in the house as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Following his retirement from federal politics, he also served a term in the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut after that territory was created in 1999. He ran as the New Democratic Party's candidate for his old riding, now renamed Nunavut, in the 2015 election, but was defeated by Liberal candidate Hunter Tootoo.

She was elected as a MLA on February 16, 2004, and further elected by other MLAs to serve on the Executive Council of Nunavut. Premier Paul Okalik named her as the Deputy Premier on March 9, 2004. She also served as the territory's Minister of Community and Government Services.

Nunavut is the largest and northernmost territory of Canada. It was separated officially from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999, via the Nunavut Act and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act, which provided this territory to the Inuit for independent government. The 4th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut began after the 2013 general election on October 29, 2013. The election returned 20 of the 22 non-partisan members, with the results in two seats pending judicial recounts or follow-up by-elections due to a tied result on election day. After the official recount held November 5, 2013, the district of Rankin Inlet South was found to be still tied and Uqqummiut was won by two votes.
