The Requena Province is one of the eight provinces in the Loreto Region of Peru. It was created by Law No. 9815 on July 2, 1943 by president Manuel Prado Ugarteche. [1] Its territory is part of the Amazon Rainforest; as such, it is characterized by high temperatures, heavy rainfall and a wide diversity of plants and animals. [2]

The province is divided into eleven districts.

Jenaro Herrera is the capital of the Jenaro Herrera District in the Requena Province of Peru. The village was founded in 1954 by Manuel Gordon Magne, a lieutenant colonel of the Guardia Civil del Perú. It is named for Jenaro Herrera, the first lawyer in Loreto, the region that encompasses the village.
