George Herman "Babe" Ruth Jr. was an American professional baseball player whose career in Major League Baseball (MLB) spanned 22 seasons, from 1914 through 1935. Nicknamed "The Bambino" and "The Sultan of Swat", he began his MLB career as a stellar left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees. Ruth established many MLB batting records, including career home runs (714), runs batted in (RBIs) (2,213), bases on balls (2,062), slugging percentage (.690), and on-base plus slugging (OPS) (1.164); the latter two still stand as of 2018. Ruth is regarded as one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture and is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time. In 1936, Ruth was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame as one of its "first five" inaugural members.
Home and Away is an Australian television soap opera. It was created by Alan Bateman and commenced broadcast on the Seven Network on 17 January 1988. Bateman came up with the concept of the show during a trip to Kangaroo Point, New South Wales, where he noticed locals were complaining about the construction of a foster home and against the idea of foster children from the city living in the area. The soap opera was initially going to be called Refuge, but the name was changed to the "friendlier" title of Home and Away once production began. The show premiered with a ninety-minute pilot episode. Since then, each subsequent episode has aired for a duration of twenty-two minutes and Home and Away has become the second longest-running drama series in Australian television. In Australia, it is currently broadcast from Mondays to Thursdays at 7:00 pm.
Lyn Collingwood is a retired Australian actress. Collingwood was cast as comic character Colleen Smart, on Home and Away and was a recurring original character in 1988 to 1989, and returned in 1997 for a guest appearance and then returned in 1999 as a regular character until retiring in May 2012 after playing the role of Colleen for 13 years. Lyn made a brief return to the series on 27 November 2012.
Raymond Francis Meagher is an Australian actor. He has appeared in Australian film and television since the mid-1970s, and is notable as the longest continuing performer in an Australian television role, as Alf Stewart on Home and Away, having played the role since the first episode in 1988. He is the only original actor still with the series. Meagher won the Gold Logie Award for his role in Home and Away in 2010. Meagher has currently played the role of Alf for over 30 years.

Ailsa Stewart is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away. She was married to Alf Stewart and had a son Duncan. She was played by actress Judy Nunn for 13 and a half years. During the early years of Home and Away, Sally Fletcher often spoke of an imaginary friend she called "Milco". When Ritchie announced her departure from the soap, producers decided to introduce the real Milco, as regular character Miles Copeland. The development was described by the media as a "legacy storyline." Quong Tart announced his departure from Home and Away in October 2011. Miles departed on 23 November 2011.

Roberts had auditioned for the roles of both Kat Chapman and Scarlett Snow prior to playing Willow. Willow is introduced into the show wearing leather, chains and riding a motorbike. This added to her image as a powerful female character.

The actor was contacted by his agent and the head of drama at Seven Network about the role. After hearing their pitch, Stewart auditioned and won the part. He began filming in December 2015, and made his first appearance during the episode broadcast on 7 June 2016. Justin was introduced to the show along with his three siblings; Tori Morgan, Brody Morgan and Mason Morgan. The family received immediate comparisons to the show's popular Braxton brothers.

The character is introduced as the long-lost grandson of original character Alf Stewart. His mother is Quinn Jackson, who is estranged from Alf. When he arrives in Summer Bay Alf does not know he exists, but his aunt Roo Stewart convinces him to stay. Ryder is characterised as "mischievous" teenager with a "confident" and "cocky" attitude. Radovich has called him the product of a "broken home". Upon arrival he is portrayed as a "bad boy" committing thefts, including driving a stolen car which hits and injures Roo. Writers used Alf's influence over Ryder to help him improve his behaviour. The actor believed that Ryder grew up and matured during his first year on the show.
