Salomon Juan Marcos Issa, (July 5, 1948; Torreón, Coahuila) is a Mexican politician. Currently is federal congressman in the LXII Legislature of the Mexican Congress. Also has been municipal president of Torreón in Coahuila during 2000 to 2002.

Torreón is a city and seat of Torreón Municipality in the Mexican state of Coahuila. As of 2015, the city's population was 679,288. The metropolitan population as of 2015 was 1,497,734, making it the ninth-biggest metropolitan area in the country and the largest metropolitan area in state of Coahuila, as well as one of Mexico's most important economic and industrial centers. The cities of Torreón, Gómez Palacio, Lerdo, Matamoros, Francisco I. Madero, San Pedro, Bermejillo, and Tlahualilo form the area of La Laguna or the Comarca Lagunera, a basin within the Chihuahuan Desert.

Coahuila State of Mexico

Coahuila, formally Coahuila de Zaragoza, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Coahuila de Zaragoza, is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, compose the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico.

The LXII Legislature of the Congress of Mexico met from September 1, 2012, to August 31, 2015. All members of both the lower and upper houses of the Congress were elected in the elections of July 2012.

Biography

Second child of businessman Antonio Juan Marcos and his wife Issa Habib. He studied licenciature in Business Management in the Autonomous University of Coahuila. He is marriedn with Rocío Villarreal Asúnsolo and has three children: Salomón, Antonio y Rocío. [1] Juan Marcos has stood out as businessman in denim manufacturing industry.

His political activity started in 1996, when he was candidate to be municipal presidente (Mayor) of Torreón but it was defeated by Jorge Zermeño Infante of the (PAN) in that chance.

Jorge Zermeño Infante is a Mexican lawyer and politician affiliated with the National Action Party. He is Mayor of Torreón (2018–2021), having previously served in this position from 1997 to 1999. From 2014 to 2017 he served as Senator of the LVIII and LIX Legislatures of the Mexican Congress representing Coahuila and as Deputy of the LX Legislature.

The National Action Party, founded in 1939, is a conservative political party in Mexico, one of the three main political parties in Mexico. Since the 1980s, it has been an important political party winning local, state, and national elections. In 2000, PAN candidate Vicente Fox was elected president for a six-year term; in 2006, PAN candidate Felipe Calderón succeeded Fox in the presidency. During the period 2000-2012, both houses of the Congress of the Union contained PAN pluralities, but the party had a majority in neither. In the 2006 legislative elections the party won 207 out of 500 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 52 out of 128 Senators. In the 2012 legislative elections, the PAN won 38 seats in the Senate, and 114 seats in the Chamber of Deputies. The members of this party are colloquially called Panistas.

Between 2000 and 2002 he was elected as mayor of Torreón. [2] Before that, between 2003 and 2005, was representative in Coahuila's Congress. During 2006 was candidate to Senator. In Mexican general election in 2012 he gained a seat in the Chamber of Deputies as representative of Coahuila. [3]

Comarca Lagunera Place in Mexico

The Comarca Lagunera or La Comarca de la Laguna is a region of northern Mexico occupying large portions of the states of Durango and Coahuila, with rich soils produced by periodic flooding of the Nazas and Aguanaval rivers. Neither river drains into either the Pacific Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico, but rather they created a series of inland lakes. The region was developed for large-scale irrigated cotton agriculture. During the Mexican Revolution, the region was the site of fierce fighting. Following the military phase of the Revolution, the region was part of the agrarian reform under President Lázaro Cárdenas. The dam named for Cárdenas now controls flooding of the rivers, but the groundwater resources are no longer recharged as a result. It is the 8th largest metropolitan area in Mexico.
