Savitri is an Indian fantasy drama television show, which aired on Life OK from 18 February 2013 [2] to October 4, 2013. The initial co-producers were Film Farm India, but before the series went on air, the production was switched to Flying Turtles. [1] In August 2013, a cast revamp was carried out. [3] It is a modern take on the traditional Indian folktale of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahabharata . [4]

Savitri and Satyavan are a legendary couple in Hinduism. Savitri is a princess who marries an exiled prince named Satyavan, who is prophesied to die early. She saves her husband from the god of death, Yama, persuading the deity to restore his life.

Salil Ashok Ankola is a former international cricketer who played one Test match and 20 One Day Internationals (ODIs) from 1989 to 1997 for India. A right-arm fast-medium bowler, he played first-class cricket for Mumbai, regularly opening the bowling. Since then he went on to appear in a number of Indian soap operas and a few Bollywood movies. In 2020, he was selected as the chief selector of the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Sāvitri is a chamber opera in one act with music composed by Gustav Holst, his Opus 25, to his own libretto. The story is based on the episode of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahābhārata, which was also included in Specimens of Old Indian Poetry and Idylls from the Sanskrit. The opera features three solo singers, a wordless female chorus, and a chamber orchestra of 12 musicians. Holst had made at least six earlier attempts at composing opera before arriving at Sāvitri.

Savitri is a 1937 mythology legend Hindi film directed by Franz Osten. Adapted from a story in the Mahabharata the writers were Niranjan Pal with dialogues by J. S. Casshyap. The cinematographer was Joseph Wirsching. Saraswati Devi composed the music. According to Garga, Savitri was the "only mythological" produced by Himanshu Rai for Bombay Talkies, who were known for making "rurlist reform dramas".
