The Seventeenth Federal Electoral District of the Federal District(XVII Distrito Electoral Federal del Distrito Federal) is one of the 300 Electoral Districts into which Mexico is divided for the purpose of elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of 27 such districts in the Federal District ("DF" or Mexico City).

Chamber of Deputies (Mexico) lower house of the parliament of Mexico

The Chamber of Deputies is the lower house of the Congress of the Union, the bicameral legislature of Mexico. The other chamber is the Senate. The structure and responsibilities of both chambers of Congress are defined in Articles 50 to 70 of the current constitution.

It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period, by means of the first past the post system.

District territory

Under the 2005 districting scheme, the DF's Seventeenth District covers the whole of the borough (delegación) of Cuajimalpa, plus that portion of the borough of Álvaro Obregón not covered by either the 16th or 26th Districts. [1]

Cuajimalpa de Morelos is one of the 16 boroughs of Mexico City. It is located on the west side of the Federal District in the Sierra de las Cruces mountains which separate Mexico City from the State of Mexico. The borough is named after the former rural town of Cuajimalpa, which has since been absorbed by urban sprawl. The borough is home to the Desierto de los Leones National Park, the first declared in Mexico as well as the second largest annual passion play in Mexico City.

Previous districting schemes

1996–2005 district

Between 1996 and 2005, the 17th District covered the whole of Cuajimalpa, plus a portion of Álvaro Obregón located in the north of the borough. [2]

The L Legislature of the Mexican Congress met from 1976 to 1979. It consisted of senators and deputies who were members of their respective chambers. They began their duties on September 1, 1976 and ended on August 31, 1979.

The LIV Legislature of the Congress of the Union met from September 1, 1988, to August 31, 1991.

José Luis Luege Tamargo is a Mexican politician and bureaucrat. Luege holds a degree in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at UNAM, where he taught for five years. He obtained two specialties in iron and steel processes, one at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and another at the "National Center for Iron and Steel Processes" in Madrid. He worked for 14 years in the national iron and steel industry.
