Major General Shakil Ahmed SPP, BGBM, nswc, afwc, psc is a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army. Currently he is serving as General Officer Commanding of 66th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Rangpur Area. He served as the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). [1] Prior to this appointment, he served as Adjutant general of Army Headquarters. Before that he has served as the General Officers Commanding of 19th Infantry Division in ghatail. [2] [3]

Education

Ahmed was born on 19 December 1968 in Joypurhat District, East Pakistan, Pakistan. [4] He completed his postgraduate education in National Security and War Studies, and Strategic Studies and Defense Studies. [5] [6]

Career

Ahmed was commissioned in the Infantry corps of Bangladesh Army on 19 December 1988. [4]

Ahmed commanded the 99th Composite Brigade and East Bengal Regiment. [7] He was the Chief Instructor at the School of Infantry and Tactics and later commandant. [7]

During Ahmed's tenure at Army Headquarter as AG he signed a significant deal on 'Bangladesh Military Contingent Agreement 2021' with Kuwait Army Assistant Chief of Staff Major General Khaled AHHM Al Qadri. [8] This deal will ensure Bangladesh Military Contingent would assist in Kuwait as part of Operation Rebuilding Kuwait (ORK), which in Bengali is known as Operation Kuwait Punargathan (OKP).

Ahmed was appointed as the director general to the Department of Immigration and Passports Office in September 2019. [9] He replaced Major General Md Shohail Hossain Khan who was made chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board. [10]

On 18 February 2022, Ahmed was appointed as Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh replacing Major General Shafeenul Islam. [11] Shafeenul Islam is set to retire from the Army. [12] Ahmed is the vice-president of Bangladesh Golf Federation and Kurmitola Golf Club. [7]

The Bangladesh Rifles revolt was a mutiny staged on 25 and 26 February 2009 in Dhaka by a section of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), a paramilitary force mainly tasked with guarding the borders of Bangladesh. The rebelling BDR soldiers took over the BDR headquarters in Pilkhana, killing BDR director-general Shakil Ahmed along with 56 other army officers and 17 civilians. They also fired on civilians, held many of their officers and their families hostage, vandalised property and looted valuables. By the second day, unrest had spread to 12 other towns and cities. The mutiny ended as the mutineers surrendered their arms and released the hostages after a series of discussions and negotiations with the government. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who returned to office less than two months before the revolt, was widely praised domestically and internationally for her handling of the mutiny. However some criticised her for not ordering an armed raid of the BDR Rifles compound. The Daily Star commended "her sagacious handling of the situation which resulted in the prevention of a further bloodbath".

Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy, Bir Bikram, SBP, BSP, OSP, ndc, psc is a retired lieutenant general of Bangladesh Army and former commandant of National Defence College. He previously served as GOC of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC).

The 2015 Bangladesh–Arakan Army border clash took place between 25 August 2015 and 26 August 2015 in the Bandarban District, near the Bangladesh–Myanmar border, after several insurgents of the Arakan Army attacked members of Border Guards Bangladesh.

Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury SBP, BSP, ndc, psc is a Lieutenant General of the Bangladesh Army and General Officer Commanding of Army Training and Doctrine Command. Prior to that, he was Director General of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. He is the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 10th Infantry Division (Ramu) and Area Commander, Cox’s Bazar Area and 33rd Infantry Division (Cumilla) and Area Commander, Cumilla Area.

AKM Aminul Haque is a major general of the Bangladesh Army and director general of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. He is the chairman of the Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank.
