Shanghai Hongqiao (simplified Chinese :上海虹桥站; traditional Chinese :上海虹橋站; pinyin :Shànghǎi Hóngqiáo Zhàn; Shanghainese: Zånhae Ghonjio Zae) is one of the most prominent of the main railway stations in Shanghai, China - the others being Shanghai railway station, Shanghai South railway station and Shanghai West railway station.
Shanghai Hongqiao railway station, located in Minhang District of Shanghai, is a major part of the Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub (“the Hongqiao hub”). The station is next to Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and lines 2, 10, and 17 of Shanghai Metro.
The construction of the railway station began on 20 July 2008 with a total investment of more than CNY 15 billion ($2.3 billion). It was opened on 1 July 2010, simultaneously with the opening of the Shanghai–Nanjing intercity railway line. The railway station takes a total area of about 1,300,000 square meters (13,993,084 sq ft) and has 16 platforms, most of which are high-speed-rail configuration. [1] The main building of the train station measures 420 metres (1,377 ft 11 in) in length, 200 metres (656 ft 2 in) in width, and 70 metres (229 ft 8 in) high (counting both underground and overground floors). 80,000 tons of steel was used to construct the train station, twice the amount of steel used to build the Beijing National Stadium (Bird nest). The train station waiting hall area is more than 10,000 square meters (107,639 sq ft), and is capable of handling 10,000 passengers at the same time. The station serves 210,000 rail passengers per day. [2]
The station primarily serves as the Shanghai terminus of several high-speed rail lines, including the Shanghai–Nanjing intercity railway, the Shanghai–Hangzhou high-speed railway (the first section of the Shanghai–Kunming high-speed railway), and the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway. As of 2015, all trains departing from Shanghai Hongqiao belong to the G and D classes (interprovincial high-speed services). [3]
Non-high-speed trains from Shanghai to the North and South of China depart from either the main Shanghai railway station or the Shanghai South railway station, respectively.

Hongqiao Railway Station of the Shanghai Metro is served by Lines 2, 10, and 17. It is also accessible by numerous bus lines and taxi.
A solar system of 20,000 solar panels, with a total area of 61,000 sq m, installed on the awnings of the station, has been described as "the world's largest stand alone integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) project". With the power output of 6.68 Megawatt, the system can produce 6.3 million kilowatt-hours (kwh) of electricity per year. [4]

Level B1, the underground level, contains the station exit and connections to other forms of transportation.
Arrivals at all 16 train platforms exit to this level. This level provides access to the Shanghai Metro's Hongqiao Railway Station stop, which is the western terminus of the Main Line of Line 10 and is also served by Line 2 and Line 17. The bus stop and taxi stand are also on this level, and there is an air-conditioned passage to Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, through which it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the airport.
The underground level also provides some fast food, such as KFC, Gongfu, Dongfang Jibai, and shopping, such as Sasa. There are three sets of Automated Ticket Machines and four sets of Ticket Windows.
Level 1 is where all 30 tracks running through the station are located. Most travellers simply transit through here from Level 2, the departure hall. All trains running on the Jinghu High-Speed Railway, Huhang High-Speed Railway, and the Huning Intercity Rail line wait outside of this level. A few vending machines are located near the escalators.
Level 2 contains 3 sets of ticket windows and the massive departure hall. All trains running on the Jinghu High-Speed Railway, Huning Intercity Rail, Huhang high-speed railway lines have their passengers wait in this level. There are also drink vending machines distributed throughout the level.
There are two unconnected parts of Level 3, one above Row A, and the other above Row B. Both offer mostly convenience stores and fast food outlets.

Beijingnan railway station is a large railway station in Fengtai District, Beijing, about 7.5 km (4.7 mi) south of central Beijing, between the 2nd and 3rd ring roads. The station in its present form opened on 1 August 2008 and mainly serves high speed trains.

Jinshan Railway or Jinshan Line is a commuter railway line in Shanghai, part of the planned Shanghai Metropolitan Area Intercity Railway. It runs from Shanghai South in Xuhui District via Xinzhuang in Minhang District to Jinshanwei in Jinshan District, crossing the Huangpu River on a dedicated railway bridge. Passengers can transfer to Lines 1, 3, 5 and 15. Originally built in 1975 as a suburban branch, it has since been upgraded into a high-speed commuter rail line which opened on 28 September 2012. The line was branded as Line 22 before opening. However, there is another line in long-term planning called Line 22, see Line 22.
The Zhengzhoudong railway station is a railway station for high-speed trains in Zhengzhou, Henan, China. It is located approximately 3 km southeast of the Zhengdong New Area CBD. On the junction of the North-South Beijing–Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong high-speed railway and the East-West Xuzhou–Lanzhou high-speed railway, it is one of the largest passenger railway stations in China.
Nanjingnan railway station is a high-speed railway station in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province, serving the Beijing–Shanghai (Jinghu) high-speed railway, Shanghai–Nanjing (Huning) intercity railway, Nanjing–Hangzhou (Ninghang) high-speed railway, Shanghai–Wuhan–Chengdu (Huhanrong) high-speed railway and the South Jiangsu Riverside high-speed railway. The new Nanjing South railway station is located a few kilometers south of downtown Nanjing in Yuhuatai District, and has a connection with the Nanjing Metro, served by Lines 1, 3, S1 and S3. Construction on the station began on 10 January 2008, and the station opened on 28 June 2011, two days before the opening of the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway.

Danyang railway station is a railway station on the Jinghu and Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity railways. The station is located in Danyang City, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, China. "Danyang railway station" now refers to two separate, but adjacent stations that are situated on either side of parallel regular and high-speed tracks. The "old" station serves regular trains, while the "new" station serves high-speed trains on the Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity High-Speed Railway. Danyang North railway station lies on the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway.
The Shanghai–Nanjing intercity railway or Huning intercity railway is a 301-kilometer (187 mi)-long high-speed rail line between Shanghai and Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province. Hù and Níng are shorthand Chinese names for Shanghai and Nanjing, respectively. The Huning intercity high-speed railway largely follows the route of the preexisting Nanjing-Shanghai section of the conventional Beijing–Shanghai railway and the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway. Construction of this high-speed railway began in July 2008. The line went into test operations in early April 2010, and opened for full service on July 1, 2010. The line has a design speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). The journey time between the two cities has been shortened from 120 minutes to 73 minutes on nonstop trains. According to the arrangements of related departments, 120 pairs of trains are operating on the line, and the time interval between services is 5 minutes at the shortest.
Railways in Jiangsu, China have existed in the province since the early 20th century. More than 40 large and medium-sized cities in Jiangsu are connected by rail; Nanjing and Xuzhou are transportation centers. Two national rail lines—Longhai Railway and Jinghu Railway —cross the province. A rail link among eight cities in the province is planned. Train travel is popular in China; it is fast, more widely available than automobile travel and more economical than travel by air.
Shanghai–Wuhan–Chengdu passenger-dedicated line or Huhanrong PDL, is a fully completed higher-speed railway corridor in China. It is operated by CR Shanghai Group, CR Wuhan Group and CR Chengdu Group. The Chinese name of the railway line, Huhanrong, is a combination of the abbreviations for Shanghai, Wuhan, and Chengdu, three major cities along the line.
Changchun–Jilin intercity railway is a high-speed rail line operated by China Railway High-speed in Jilin Province, which opened for service on January 11, 2011. It is the first intercity high-speed rail to be operational in Northeast China. Like the Shanghai–Nanjing intercity high-speed railway, which services Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, the Changchun–Jilin intercity railway serves as an airport rail link for the cities of Changchun and Jilin.
The Hongqiao comprehensive transportation hub is a major intermodal passenger transport hub situated in the western suburb district of Changning and Minhang of Shanghai. The hub consists of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, the intercity high-speed Shanghai Hongqiao railway station, three metro lines, buses, taxicabs and a reserved maglev station for future uses. Hongqiao hub is the first of its kind in China and the model has been followed by various other Chinese cities, including Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Wuhu railway station is a railway station in Jinghu District, Wuhu, Anhui, China. It is situated at the intersection of multiple conventional and high-speed lines.
Airport link line of Shanghai Suburban Railway is a commuter rail line currently under construction in Shanghai. It runs from Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 in Minhang District to Shanghai East railway station in Pudong. The 68.6-kilometer (42.6 mi) express line is expected to shorten the travel time between the airports of Hongqiao and Pudong from 90 minutes to under 40 minutes. Construction started in June 2019. The line is expected to open at the end of 2024.
