Siam Paragon (Thai : สยามพารากอน) is a shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand. It is one of the largest malls in Thailand, along with IconSiam, CentralWorld and CentralPlaza WestGate. [1]

Contents

Siam Paragon includes a range of specialty stores and restaurants as well as a multiplex (15 large screen cinemas), the Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World aquarium, an exhibition hall, the Thai Art Gallery, and an opera concert hall. It also has a bowling alley and karaoke centre. It is a joint venture by Siam Piwat, the company that owns the adjacent Siam Center/Siam Discovery shopping malls, and The Mall Group, which owns The Emporium. Siam Paragon's financial results are not reported by the privately held Siam Paragon Development. [2]

Siam Paragon was built on the former site of the Siam Intercontinental Hotel, which was demolished in 2002 at the end of its lease. The site, leased for 30 years, is Crown Property Bureau land and at one time was the royal parkland of Sa Pathum Palace. The mall opened on 9 December 2005 at a cost of about 15 billion baht or US$450 million. It covers an area of 52 rai (8.3 ha; 21 acres).

Location

Siam Paragon is on Rama I Road in Pathum Wan District, adjacent to other shopping areas. It is next door to Siam Center and Siam Discovery Center and opposite Siam Square. MBK Center is also nearby. An elevated walkway beneath the BTS Skytrain tracks links Siam Paragon to the Ratchaprasong intersection, where CentralWorld, Gaysorn and several other shopping malls and hotels are located.

The Paragon Department Store occupies 50,000 square metres. Another 40,000 square metres are devoted to retail shops selling goods ranging from apparel to groceries to expensive automobiles. [3]

There is a section of Thai traditional arts shops offering a range of decorative silk, ivory and antique items.

Royal Paragon Hall

The Royal Paragon Hall is a 12,000 square metre events facility, with a capacity of 5,000 persons suitable for concerts, conventions, and special exhibitions. [4]

Hotel

The Siam Kempinski Hotel and serviced apartment complex is on a 13 acres (53,000 m2) at the rear of the Siam Paragon property. [5]

Siam Paragon consumes roughly 123 GWh of electricity a year (2011). By comparison, over the same period, Mae Hong Son Province's quarter-million inhabitants used 65 GWh. [6] [7] [8] [9]

Siam station is the cross-platform interchange station for the BTS Skytrain in Pathum Wan District, Bangkok, Thailand. It is the largest and busiest station on the BTS with 40,000–50,000 passengers per day, where passengers on the Sukhumvit and Silom Lines change trains.

CentralWorld

CentralWorld is a shopping plaza and complex in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the eleventh largest shopping complex in the world. The complex, which includes a hotel and office tower, is owned by Central Pattana. In 2006, after three years of design and renovation, CentralWorld was expanded to 550,000 m2 (5,900,000 sq ft) of shopping mall and 830,000 m2 (8,900,000 sq ft) of complex, topping nearby rival Siam Paragon in terms of size.

National Stadium BTS station

National Stadium station is a BTS Skytrain station on the Silom Line in Pathum Wan District, Bangkok, Thailand. The station is located on Rama I Road to the west of Pathum Wan intersection, where the National Stadium, MBK Center, Siam Discovery Center, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and Siam Square are situated and all linked to the station by skybridge. It is also in walking distance to Siam Center and Siam Paragon, which are located at Siam station. Jim Thompson House, a popular Thai silk museum of Jim Thompson, is just opposite the station in Soi Kasemsan 2.

Chit Lom BTS station

Chit Lom station is a BTS skytrain station, on the Sukhumvit Line in Pathum Wan District, Bangkok, Thailand. The station is located on Phloen Chit Road at Chit Lom intersection to Lang Suan and Chit Lom Road. It is also linked by Skybridge directly to Central Chidlom department store, and Sky Walk to Ratchaprasong intersection where Central World, Gaysorn Plaza and Erawan Shrine is situated next to Pratunam clothing market within walking distance from the intersection. The Sky Walk also links the station with Siam station, with cluster of luxury shops in Siam Square and Siam Paragon shopping mall.

Siam area

Siam is a shopping district in the heart of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. It is situated alongside a stretch of Rama I Road in the city's Pathum Wan District, from Pathum Wan Intersection to Chaloem Phao Junction, beyond which it meets the adjacent Ratchaprasong neighbourhood. The area is home to multiple large shopping malls, and, together with Ratchaprasong, forms what has been termed the city's central shopping district, functioning as the modern-day city centre.
