Wien's displacement law states that the black-body radiation curve for different temperatures will peak at different wavelengths that are inversely proportional to the temperature. A peak of eternal light (PEL) is a hypothetical point on the surface of an astronomical body that is always in sunlight. Such a peak must have high latitude, high elevation, and be on a body with very small axial tilt. The existence of such peaks was first postulated by Beer and Mädler in 1837. The pair said about the lunar polar mountains: "...many of these peaks have eternal sunshine". These polar peaks were later mentioned by Camille Flammarion in 1879, who speculated that there may exist pics de lumière éternelle at the poles of the Moon. PELs would be advantageous for space exploration and colonization due to the ability of an electrical device located there to receive solar power regardless of the time of day or day of the year, and the relatively stable temperature range.

Tabeguache Peak is one of the fourteeners of the US state of Colorado. It is a near neighbor of the higher peak Mount Shavano, which lies approximately 1/2 mile to the southeast, and is close to being a subpeak of the latter. According to William Bright an American Linguist specialized in Native American and South Asian languages and descriptive linguistics it is pronounced "TAB-uh-wahch". According to Mountaineer Louis Dawson the name is pronounced "tab-uh-wash," with the accent on the first syllable. It lies just east of the Continental Divide and just west of the Arkansas River, in the south-central part of the Sawatch Range. It is located within the San Isabel National Forest and is in Chaffee County.

Noonmark Mountain is a 3,556-foot (1,084 m) mountain near St. Huberts in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks in New York, United States. The prominent peak provides 360-degree views, including the Great Range, the Dix Range, Giant Mountain, the Ausable River valley, and the village of Keene. When seen from the nearby hamlet of Keene Valley, where it dominates the view, the peak of Noonmark Mountain is more or less directly beneath the sun at mid-day.

The ultra-prominent 14,115-foot (4,302.31 m) fourteener is located in Pike National Forest, 12 miles (19 km) west of downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. The mountain is named in honor of American explorer Zebulon Pike. The summit is higher than any point in the United States east of its longitude.
Sun Peaks is a mountain resort municipality in British Columbia, Canada. It was incorporated on June 28, 2010. It is built around Sun Peaks Resort. It is located 55 kilometers northeast of Kamloops and 410 kilometers from Vancouver. The municipality has a resident population of 616 people, with an additional 900 + non-resident property owners.
Hyndman Peak, at an elevation of 12,009 feet (3,660 m) above sea level, is the ninth highest peak in Idaho and the highest point in the Pioneer Mountains, Sawtooth National Forest, and Blaine County. Hyndman Peak is located on the border of Custer and Blaine counties. The towns of Hailey, Ketchum, and Sun Valley are west of the peak.
Bromaghin Peak, at 10,225 feet (3,117 m) above sea level is the fourth highest peak in the Smoky Mountains of Idaho. The peak is in Sawtooth National Recreation Area about 0.6 miles (0.97 km) north-northwest of the range's highest point, Saviers Peak. The peak is named for Captain Ralph Bromaghin, who was a member of the 10th Mountain Division and a Sun Valley ski instructor who died in World War II.
