Vinicius Sosa (born 19 April 1988), known professionally as SosMula, is a Brazilian-American rapper and songwriter. He is one-half of the trap metal duo City Morgue, consisting of rapper ZillaKami.

Early life

SosMula was born in the favelas of São Paulo, Brazil in 1988. [1] He would live in São Paulo until the age of two, before migrating to the United States and residing in the Stanley M. Isaacs Housing Projects located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan - an area dubbed as the "Spanish Harlem." [2] [3] In Manhattan, his mother worked as a tattoo artist at her own tattoo shop and his father worked as a construction worker. [4] [2] However, at the age of 12, his mother would move back to Brazil, leaving SosMula under the supervision of his father, who soon became addicted to various hard drugs. [5]

Career

SosMula began rapping in the tenth grade. [6] [2] Initially, he rapped under the name "Sos" which was coined by his friends but given his early upbringing in the poverty-stricken Spanish Harlem area, his desire for money led him to rebrand as "Sos Money." In 2005, whilst partaking in street rap battles with inhabitants and fellow artists from his neighborhood and housing complex, SosMula would attract the attention of rapper 1 Shot Dealz, whom he would later go on to work with closely. [6]

Eventually, due to the lack of supervision from his mother, who was now back in Brazil, SosMula began to skip school and fell under the influence of local gangs, especially the Rollin' 40 Crips and began selling hard drugs including crack. [5] He would often get caught distributing crack and other drugs alongside committing robberies, for which he was sentenced to jail for months at a time. [7]

During one of his jail stints, he renounced his ties with the Rollin' 40 Crips and joined the Makk Balla Bloods gang. [5] After facing a slew of legal issues from 2005-2010, SosMula again returned home and in January of 2011, began to focus seriously on his musical craft. [6] One of SosMula's friends and early supporters named "Booga" re-forged the connection between SosMula and 1 Shot Dealz, causing SosMula to become inducted into the Ryder Nation Music Movement - a group spearheaded by 1 Shot Dealz. [6]

As a member of the Ryder Nation Music Movement, alongside collaborating on music with 1 Shot Dealz, SosMula would work closely on the group's popular street clothing line and its business dealings. [6]

Shortly thereafter, SosMula and 1 Shot Dealz would launch their own music record label titled "Everything Authentic Records" and sign themselves under their own creation. [8] [9] [6] SosMula's first solo song, released in 2011, was titled "GLASS HOUSE". [10] [11] Upon the release of this song, SosMula forged plans to release two other bodies of work, with the first being an EP titled "City of Godz" and the second being a mixtape titled "90 Thousand in Dimes." [6]

In 2015, SosMula was caught in a house raid and charged with possession of drugs and other contraband, for which he was now awaiting trial. [5] If the project had not been scrapped, "City of God" would have been SosMula's first official full-length musical release of his career in 2015, however, this was not the case. Instead, on January 10, 2020, the project would stealthily be uploaded to the music distribution platform DatPiff by the username "SosMula666." [12] [13]

After spending an extensive part of his youth in jail, SosMula decided to clear the slate and moved to Brooklyn, New York in early 2016, where he was swiftly introduced to ZillaKami through his tattoo shop's employee "Righteous P" - the older brother of ZillaKami. [7] After realizing that they share musical chemistry, SosMula and ZillaKami both began experimenting with music and trying to craft a unique "trap metal" sound. [2] Initially, they formed the group "Scum Squad" consisting of SosMula, ZillaKami, and rapper 6ix9ine, however, due to issues between 6ix9ine and ZillaKami and the various legal issues surrounding SosMula and 6ix9ine individually, the group eventually disbanded. [5] Shortly thereafter, SosMula got sentenced after the conclusion of his trial and was scheduled to be released in August 2016.[ citation needed ]

After being released, SosMula and ZillaKami again joined forces and formed their new group City Morgue, releasing a slew of acclaimed singles on SoundCloud throughout 2017. [3] [14] After debuting their first music video together in early 2018 for the song "SHINNERS13", they released the Be Patient EP on SoundCloud, consisting of 3 songs. [14] [15] [16] Soon after this release, they signed a record deal with Republic Records under the Hikari-ULTRA sub-label and released their debut studio album on October 12, 2018, titled City Morgue Vol. 1: Hell or High Water. [5]

On April 7, 2019, SosMula released the two-track EP KLEAN UP KREW on SoundCloud to build anticipation for his upcoming solo debut album 13 SONGS 2 DIE 2. [17]

On December 13, 2019, City Morgue released their sophomore album, City Morgue Vol 2: As Good as Dead . [18]

On July 31, 2020, City Morgue released the project Toxic Boogaloo. [19]

On August 20, 2021, SosMula released his debut solo album 13 SONGS 2 DIE 2. [20]

On October 15, 2021, City Morgue released their third studio album, City Morgue Vol 3: Bottom of the Barrel. [21]

On April 22, 2022, SosMula released his sophomore solo album titled 2 HIGH 2 DIE and shortly released its deluxe version on June 17, 2022 with 6 new songs, totaling 26 songs for the entire project. [22] [23]

On July 15, 2022, SosMula released a collaborative EP with rapper OTL Beezy, titled BODYBAG MUSIK. [24] [25]

On July 22, 2022, SosMula released an EP produced entirely by the producer Ryder Johnson, titled CrashOutBoyz. [26]

On December 1, 2022, SosMula released an EP produced entirely by the producer Synthetic, titled SLEEZ MACHINE. [27]

On September 15, 2023, City Morgue released their final studio album titled My Bloody America . [28]

On June 14, 2024, SosMula released the single "SLASHER PT. 2". [29] [30] On July 5, 2024, he released the single "SLEEZY BASTARD (SLASHER PT. 1)". [31] [32] On August 23, 2024, he released the single "BOOGIE MAN." [33] [34] [35] These singles were followed by the release of his album SLEEZ RELIGION on September 13, 2024. [36] [37] [38]

SosMula cites his influences as Marilyn Manson, Deftones, Bob Marley, Slipknot, James Brown, Dipset, DMX, State Property, Weezer, Green Day, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Biggie, Tupac, Eminem, Jay-Z and various R&B compositions he heard during his childhood. [2] [7] [15] [3]
