Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Science (SSC RAS) is a regional unit of the Russian Academy of Science, which includes research groups from a number of cities located in the Southern Federal District of Russia. SSC RAS was established on December 19, 2002.

Since 2016, the development of mathematical and computational methods for biological research, as well as a direct solution to the problems of computational biology with the use of such methods, has also been included in the circle of scientific activities of the institute.

Gennady Vasilievich Osipov is a Russian scientist, sociologist and philosopher, Ph.D., Professor, full member (academician) of the Russian Academy of Sciences /RAS/ since 1991; scientific leader of the Institute of Socio-Political Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences ; President of the Russian Academy of Social Sciences (RASS); member of RAS Social Sciences Department Bureau; President of the Eurasian International Association; member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Security Council; Honorary President of the Russian Sociological Association. Osipov graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University) in 1952.

John Kuriyan is the dean of basic sciences and a professor of biochemistry at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He was formerly the Chancellor's Professor at the University of California, Berkeley in the departments of molecular and cell biology (MCB) and chemistry, a faculty scientist in Berkeley Lab's physical biosciences division, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and he has also been on the Life Sciences jury for the Infosys Prize in 2009, 2019 and 2020.

The A.N. Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds of Russian Academy of Sciences was founded in 1954 by a prominent scientist, the President of the USSR Academy of Sciences, academician A. N. Nesmeyanov (1899–1980), who was a "father" of the modern chemistry of organoelement and organometallic compounds. He headed the Institute for 26 years. Major directions of research of the Institute are the following: Laboratories of Organoelement Profile, Laboratories of Polymer Profile, and Laboratories of Physical Profile.

Sergey Psakhie was a Russian physicist, Chairman of the Presidium of the Tomsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was the author and co-author of more than two hundred scientific papers, including five monographs.

Alferov Federal State Budgetary Institution of Higher Education and Science Saint Petersburg National Research Academic University of the Russian Academy of Sciences was founded in 1997 originally as the Research and Education Center of the Ioffe Institute to integrate science and education in the field of physics and information technologies. It has the distinction of being the only university in the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), which is composed primarily of national research institutes. Accordingly, the word "Academic" in the university's name stems from the Academy of Sciences, the organization that unites numerous national research institutes in Russia. The St. Petersburg Academic University was founded by Zhores Alferov, director of the Ioffe Institute, vice-president of the RAS Academician and Nobel prize laureate, who served as its rector until his death on March 1, 2019.

The Institute of Systematics and Ecology of Animals (ISEA) located in Novosibirsk is one of the oldest research organization in the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The institute was founded in 1944 as Biomedical Institute, the first Siberian academic establishment working in biology. The Siberian Zoological Museum of the ISEA SB RAS has the third-largest coleopteran collection in Russia. Some Siberian research organizations as the Central Siberian Botanical Garden SB RAS and the Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry SB RAS were derived from the Institute former laboratories.

Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences is an academic rank introduced in 2015 by the RAS to be conferred to distinguished Russian scientists from all fields, who are not yet members of the Academy. Research achievements of RAS Professors are supposed to be higher than those of an ordinary university professor but their teaching experience may be relatively modest. Along with its role as an academic rank, “RAS Professor” is an honorary title emphasizing merits of an individual.

The Institute of Mathematical Problems of Biology RAS is a research institute specializing in computational biology and bioinformatics. The objective of the institute is elaboration of mathematical and computational methods for biological research, as well as implementation of these methods directly addressing the problems of computational biology. Since 2016, it has been renamed into the Institute of Mathematical Problems of Biology RAS – the Branch of Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics of Russian Academy of Sciences.
