Central Michigan Lower Peninsula of Michigan in the United States

Mid Michigan, occasionally called Central Michigan, is a region in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. As its name implies, it is the middle area of the Lower Peninsula. Lower Michigan is said to resemble a mitten, and Mid Michigan corresponds roughly to the Thumb and palm, stretching from Michigan's eastern shoreline along Lake Huron into the fertile rolling plains of the Michigan Basin. The region contains cities of moderate size including Flint, Saginaw, and the state capital of Lansing.

Two for profit financing organizations, the Physicians Health Plan and the Sparrow Physicians Health Plan, are owned and operated by Sparrow Health System. Hospitals within the Sparrow Health System include Sparrow Hospital and Sparrow Specialty Hospital (Long Term Acute Care formerly located at the old St. Lawrence Hospital) in Lansing, Clinton Memorial Hospital, Carson City Hospital, and Ionia County Memorial Hospital. The Michigan Athletic Club, located in Lansing, is also a subsidiary of Sparrow Health System. The Sparrow Health System Laboratory performs over 3 million tests per year, at various laboratory sites, which include four remote testing facilities and thirteen patient service centers.

Sparrow Hospital Hospital in Michigan, United States

Sparrow Hospital is a 733-bed teaching hospital located in Lansing, Michigan that provides care for the greater Mid-Michigan region. The hospital is a subsidiary of Sparrow Health System, and is affiliated with the Colleges of Human Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine at nearby Michigan State University. Sparrow Hospital operates the only dedicated pediatric and adult emergency department in the region. The ED is a level I trauma center, as verified by the American College of Surgeons. It is also a Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. Sparrow also has modern operating rooms, multiple helipads, an oncology center, heart and vascular center, and orthopedic department. In addition, 4,500 births are performed at Sparrow Hospital annually.

A portion of Sparrow employees are represented by the Michigan Nurses Association and the UAW Local 4911.

Michigan Medicine

Michigan Medicine, formerly the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS), is the wholly owned academic medical center of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It includes the U-M Medical School, with its faculty group practice and many research laboratories; the U-M hospitals and health centers, which include University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital, as well as approximately 40 health centers and home care services across southeast Michigan; the clinical programs of the U-M School of Nursing; and the activities of the Michigan Health Corporation, through which U-M partners with other medical centers and hospitals to provide specialized care throughout Michigan.

Peel Memorial Hospital (PMH) was a 367-bed acute care hospital located in central Brampton, Ontario. PMH was founded in 1925 and became a part of the William Osler Health Centre in 1998. It previously served approximately 400,000 residents in Brampton and the surrounding areas. Over 96,832 patients were treated on an out-patient basis, another 70,446 residents used the 24/7 emergency department and 22,889 patients were admitted for inpatient care. The hospital employed over 1,800 professional and support personnel. There were 320 physicians as well as approximately 600 volunteers that contributed their services and fund raising efforts.

Michigan State University College of Human Medicine

The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSUCHM) is an academic division of Michigan State University (MSU), and grants the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. CHM was founded in 1964 as the first community-integrated medical school, and has a program that emphasizes patient-centered care and a biopsychosocial approach to caring for patients. Required courses at the college reinforce the importance of ethics and professionalism in medicine. In 2013, U.S. News & World Report ranked the college 51st for primary care. The college was also ranked for family medicine and rural medicine. More than 4,000 M.D.s have graduated from the College. Pre-clinical campuses are located on MSU's main campus in East Lansing, Michigan and in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, while the clinical rotations are at seven community campuses located throughout Michigan.

Vidant Medical Center is a hospital located in Greenville, North Carolina. It is the primary teaching hospital for East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine and is the flagship medical center for Vidant Health. Vidant is a Level 1 Trauma Center, one of 6 in the state of North Carolina. It is the only level I trauma center east of Raleigh, and thus is the hub of medical care for a broad and complicated rural region of over 2 million people.
