The SsangYong Chairman is a full-size luxury car that was manufactured by South Korean automaker SsangYong from 1997 to 2017. The original model was renamed Chairman H in 2008, with a new model introduced in the same year and designated Chairman W.
On release to the South Korean market in 1997, the Chairman was a high-end executive sedan. Its manufacturer, SsangYong, was best known for SUVs and RVs, with the Chairman has been its only sedan. The first generation Chairman was built on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W124) platform,[ citation needed ] but styled more like a modernized W140 S-Class.[ citation needed ] Coincidentally, the design also foretold that of the upcoming W220 S-Class, which led to some consternation at the German company. Mercedes-Benz requested that Ssangyong redesign the car to make it look less like a Mercedes-Benz and to refrain from selling it in developed export markets such as Europe and the United States. [1]

SsangYong renamed the original pre-2008 Chairman model as Chairman H (which has the same design as the 2003–2008 model) to differentiate from the Chairman W. Chairman H kept the same exterior, interior, engine, transmission and features as the previous models. In 2003, the Chairman received a restyled front grille, front and rear headlights, and improved interior assembly.
The 2005 Chairman, based on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W124) had the following features: heated and cooled cup holders, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control.
Although sold globally, the Chairman H sold very poorly outside Korea, due to both poor reviews and a lack of SsangYong dealerships. This was in part rectified by rebadging the car as a Daewoo in some countries, which also included the Daewoo corporate grille. The Daewoo version was offered until 2002 and was not replaced until 2005, when they introduced the Daewoo Statesman (a rebadged Holden).
In 2011, the Chairman H was once again redesigned, still keeping its Mercedes-Benz design cues. [2]
The Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) stated that in 2014, SsangYong Motor Company sold a total of 1,718 Chairman H cars in South Korea. In January 2015, the SsangYong Motor Company website no longer advertised or referenced the Chairman H.[ citation needed ]

SsangYong developed their own all-new flagship Chairman W, New Chairman with V8 5-litre engine and Mercedes-Benz 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. The Chairman W is derived from the SsangYong WZ concept car. The 'W' stands for 'World Class.'
Chairman W is offered in six trims with two engines, a limo version, and an additional AWD 4-Tronic (Mercedes-Benz 4Matic). XGi360, once used for New Chairman, is transferred to the entry model with a straight 6-cylinder engine, and the 5-liter V8 Mercedes-Benz M113 engine and the 7G-Tronic transmission (the largest V8 engine produced in South Korea [3] ) are applied to two high-end models, VVIP and the long-wheel-base version. It has an electronically controlled self-levelling air suspension system with a rebound coil that helps reduce noise and vibration, as well as an extended rear passenger space [4] and the front and rear both have their own screen to control the car's entertainment system, similar to Chrysler's MyGig.
The Chairman W is the first Korean luxury sedan to apply a four-wheel drive system, a feature common in high-end European sedans. [4]
The Chairman W was planned to be rebadged as the Roewe R95 for the short-wheel-base version, and the Roewe R95L for the long-wheel-base version, to serve as Roewe's flagship model, but the project was canceled. Roewe would later add a full-size flagship sedan to their lineup in the Roewe 950, which was initially planned to be named the R95. [5]
On 23 November 2017, SsangYong Motor Company announced that the Chairman will be finally discontinued in order to shift focus on SUVs and crossovers, marking the end of Chairman production after just over twenty years.

The KG Mobility Corporation is a South Korea–based automobile manufacturer. It traces its origins back to a manufacturer established in 1954. The company was named SsangYong Motor Company in 1988, following its acquisition by the chaebol SsangYong Group in 1986. SsangYong Motor was then acquired by Daewoo Motors, SAIC Motor, and then Mahindra & Mahindra. In 2022, the company was acquired by the KG Group and adopted its present name in March 2023.
Daewoo Motors was a South Korean automotive company established in 1937 as "National Motors". The company changed its name several times until 1982 when it became "Daewoo Motors" following its acquisition by the Daewoo Group. After running into financial difficulties, it sold most of its assets in 2002 to General Motors at $1.2 billion, becoming a subsidiary of the American company. In 2011, the name "Daewoo" was definitively removed with the company being renamed GM Korea and the Daewoo brand replaced by the Chevrolet marque.
The SsangYong Rodius is an automobile released in late 2004 by the South Korean automaker SsangYong Motor Company. Rodius is an inaccurate portmanteau of the words road and Zeus, which is intended to mean "Lord of the Road." Considered a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), it is available in 7, 9 and 11 seat configurations, a 5-seater version is also available in Hong Kong. The seats can be folded to act as tables or folded further to add extra cargo area. They can be turned around, encouraging conversation and can be slid forward and backward.

The Mercedes-Benz M104 is a straight-6 automobile engine produced from 1989 through 1999. It has a double overhead cam design with 4 valves per cylinder, and used a crossflow cylinder head. It replaced the M103 and was replaced by the M112 V6 starting in 1997. The bore spacing on all M104 engines is the same as M103 engines.
7G-Tronic is Mercedes-Benz's trademark name for its seven-speed automatic transmission, starting off with the W7A 700 and W7A 400 as core models.

At the vehicle's debut at the Seoul Motor Show, SsangYong stated: "The Wz packs the flagship Chairman's ultra-luxurious environment, while keeping SsangYong's excellence in design and engineering. Wz enters into a new field, parting from its traditional SUV designs, and emphasizes SsangYong's excellence in luxury." Features include: climate control, cruise control, airbags, Independent rear suspension, and ABS Brakes.
The Roewe 350 is a small family car or compact car produced by Roewe in China onwards from 2010,the 2.0 liter turbo engine produces 247 hp and goes from 0-100 in 4.8 seconds, this type of engine can only be found in the middle east and in China. the 1.5 liter engine is sold in international markets and produces 146 hp MG 350. Codenamed AP11, it shares the same automotive platform with the MG 5 hatchback, which entered production in 2011 as a 2012 model.

The SsangYong Tivoli is a subcompact crossover SUV made by the SsangYong Motor Company. It is SsangYong's first new model under Mahindra & Mahindra ownership. It is named after the Italian town of Tivoli, Lazio, and was chosen because it can be read as "I love it" in reverse.
