Its county seat is Flemington.

Stone Creek is positioned to the left of Holland Brook facing downstream. It is the first tributary of the Brook in the western section of Readington Township near Cushetunk Mountain. It runs alongside the Bertrand Easement in Readington and flows into Holland Brook at 40°35′23″N74°48′09″W / 40.589743°N 74.802604°W / 40.589743; -74.802604 . Stony Creek Lane, just east of the stream is named after the waterway. The creek is named for its stony bottom resultant of rock from Mount Cushetunk. The brook is categorized by the NJDEP's website as FW2-NT (fresh water second level classification generally not suitable for trout.)

Cushetunk Mountain is a ring shaped mountain in the U.S. state of New Jersey, located in Readington and Clinton Township in Hunterdon County. The Lenape Native Americans called the mountain "Cushetunk" meaning "place of hogs" after the wild hogs found there. In the 1960s, the valley at the heart of the mountain was dammed and filled with water to create Round Valley Reservoir. Today, the mountain and its accompanying lake act as a vital water supply to Central New Jersey, while at the same time providing numerous recreational opportunities to the region.

Mahoras Brook is an approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) long spring-fed tributary of Waackaack Creek that flows through Monmouth County, New Jersey. It rises in a small glen shortly west of Middletown, at 40°25′12″N 74°08′13″W and makes a bend north, flowing through the northwest section of Tatum Park. The creek flows under Holland Road and runs north in a small, forested swale through a dominantly residential area, roughly paralleling Laurel Avenue, and receives a small tributary on the left bank. Then it flows under New Jersey State Route 35 and soon, its mouth is on the left bank of Waackaack Creek at 40°23′22″N 74°08′13″W.

Dreahook Creek is a left tributary of Holland Brook in Readington, New Jersey. It begins on township owned land near Creek Road and Dreahook Road. It merges with another small tributary on the east side of County Route 620 before entering the Holland Brook. It was named after the former Dutch village of Dreahook (Drea-Hook). The name is a corruption of Driehoek, which is the Dutch word for triangle. It was likely named for the triangle created by the settlement in its relation to the early roads to Flemington, Whitehouse Station, Readington Village and Pleasant Run, which have since been rerouted.

Readington Village is an unincorporated community located within Readington Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States, that is centered on the converging of Readington Road, Hillcrest Road, Centerville Road and Brookview Road. It is located on Holland Brook, originally named Amanmechunk, which means large creek in the Unami dialect. The area was inhabited by the Raritan prior to the arrival of European settlers. The Native Americans who lived near Readington Village travelled to the coast during the summer for fish and clams. Such a trip is mentioned in an Indian deed transferring lands around Holland Brook to English and Dutch settlers. The deed mentions two of the natives, who lived at Readington: Metamisco and Wataminian.

The name is a corruption of Driehoek, which is the Dutch word for triangle. It was likely named for the triangle created by the settlement in its relation to the early roads to Flemington, Whitehouse Station, Readington Village and Pleasant Run, which have sense been rerouted. Dreahook Creek and Holland Brook both pass through the area of the former village. Dreahook village once had blacksmith shop, a school and a store. Settlers farmed the land here because of the rich soil along the base of Cushetunk Mountain. There are still numerous farms in the area, including the Readington River Buffalo Farm between Dreahook and Stanton.
