Stonycreek Township is a township in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The township takes its name from the stony creek which for a part of its course flows through it and then becomes its western boundary. As a stream it takes its name from the rocky bed over which It flows in a great part of its course. Its Indian name was Sinne-Hanne or Achsin-Hanne. "Hanne" means a stream and especially a swift mountain stream." The population was 2,221 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Statistical Area.

In addition to serving the borough of Shanksville and the Township of Stonycreek, it serves the borough of Indian Lake. The district encompasses approximately 65 square miles. According to 2000 federal census data, it serves a resident population of 2,916. According to District officials, in school year 2005–06 the SSSD provided basic educational services to 455 pupils through the employment of 41 teachers, 22 full-time and part-time support personnel, and 3 administrators.

The Glessner Bridge is a historic covered bridge in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1881, and is a 90-foot-long (27 m), long-multiple Kingpost truss bridge, with half-height plank siding and a tin covered gable roof. The bridge crosses Stonycreek River. It is one of 10 covered bridges in Somerset County.
