Sumiyoshi Station (住吉駅, Sumiyosi-eki) is a train station on the Tōkaidō Main Line (JR Kobe Line) of JR West, located in Higashi-Nada-ku, Kobe, Japan and a transfer point to the Rokko Liner, which connects mainland Kobe to the man-made Rokkō Island.
The JR station consists of four tracks and two island platforms. The two inside tracks are used by local and rapid service trains, and the two outside tracks by passing trains and a limited number of rapid trains.
Sumiyoshi originally opened in 1874 with the extension of the Tōkaidō Main Line from Osaka to Kobe and had been a local stop until 1990. But with the construction of Rokkō Island and the opening of the Rokko Liner, the station went through a major overhaul. Now, the station is part of a shopping complex and has become a rapid service stop.
The Rokko Liner station, the line terminus, is located above the JR platforms.

Rokkō Island is a man-made island in Higashinada-ku, Kobe, Japan. It is located in the southeast region at Port of Kobe. The island has a 3.4 km by 2 km rectangular shape, and covers 5.80 km² or 1,400 acres. The residential area of the island, featuring apartment buildings—many with views of the sea—and single family homes, is located in the center of the island. A green belt separates the residential area from industrial and port activities. The two international schools located on the island attract many foreign residents to the island.
Kobe Shoin Women's University is an all-women's private university in Nada Ward of Kobe, in western Japan. It was founded by visiting missionaries in 1892. It is a four-year university offering courses across multiple faculties, with an annual enrollment of about 2,500 students. Additionally, the university has a graduate school offering graduate qualifications at Masters and Doctoral level in psychology and linguistics.
Higashinada is one of 9 wards of Kobe in Japan. It has an area of 30.36 km², and a population of 212,111 (2012). South of the Hanshin Main Line, it is also home to some notable sake brewing areas, including Uozaki and Mikage.
