The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) is an ice hockey league in the United Kingdom. Formed in 2003 following the demise of the Ice Hockey Superleague, it is the highest level of ice hockey competition in the United Kingdom.

In addition to the United States and Canada, high-level professional hockey is present in Germany, Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland and Switzerland; professional hockey is also played in many other countries, as diverse as Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Austria, Australia and Japan.
Steve Carpenter is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey defenceman. Between 1995 and 1997 he played in the ECHL and the West Coast Hockey League before moving to the United Kingdom, where he played until he retired from ice hockey in 2005.

Ice hockey is played professionally in the United Kingdom in the Elite Ice Hockey League, a eleven-team league which was founded in 2003.
The Soviet Hockey Championship was the highest level ice hockey league in the Soviet Union, running from 1946 to 1992. Before the 1940s the game of ice hockey was not cultivated in Russia, instead the more popular form of hockey was bandy. Following the dissolution of the USSR, the league was temporarily renamed the CIS Championship in 1992. This organization was the direct predecessor of the International Hockey League, and subsequent Russian Superleague (RSL) and current Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
The Alexander Cup was the Canadian national major senior ice hockey championship trophy from 1950 to 1954.
