The 12th African Games was held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. This was the first time that the African Games were hosted by Morocco following the country's readmission to the African Union in January 2017.

Jason Edward Dunford, OGW, also known as Samaki Mkuu, is a Kenyan Olympic swimmer, media personality, rapper and entrepreneur. During his swimming career he was predominantly a butterfly and freestyle sprinter and won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, Universiade, All-Africa Games and African Championships, and reached finals at Olympics, World Championships and Short Course World Championships. He also held African, Universiade and Olympic records. He is a broadcast journalist with the BBC, raps under the stage name Samaki Mkuu, was the founder and host of J-Talk Live, and is a co-founder and adviser to software company, Safi Analytics.
Swimming has been part of African Games since its inaugural edition in 1965 and has continued to feature prominently at the competition in each of its subsequent editions.
Israel is scheduled to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo from 24 July to 9 August 2020. Since the nation's official debut in 1952, Israeli athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, other than the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow which it opted not to attend because of the nation's support for the US-led boycott. It will be the nation's seventeenth appearance at the Summer Olympics.
