Ho Chi Minh City, also commonly known as Saigon, is the most populous city in Vietnam, with a population of around 9.3 million in 2023. Situated in the Southeast region of Vietnam, the city surrounds the Saigon River and covers about 2,061 km2 (796 sq mi).
The Saigon River is a river located in southern Vietnam that rises near Phum Daung in southeastern Cambodia, flows south and south-southeast for about 225 kilometres (140 mi) and empties into the Soài Rạp, which in its turn empties into the South China Sea some 20 kilometres (12 mi) northeast of the Mekong Delta.
Thủ Dầu Một is the capital city of Bình Dương province, Vietnam, located at around 10°58′0″N106°39′0″E. The city has an area of 118.66 km², with a population of 417,000, and is located 20 km north of downtown Ho Chi Minh City, on the left bank of the Saigon River, upstream from the city.

Long Thanh International Airport is an international airport currently under construction in Long Thành district, Đồng Nai province, Vietnam, approximately 40 km (25 mi) east of Ho Chi Minh City. The Vietnamese government approved its construction on January 4, 2021. Construction began the next day on January 5, 2021, and its first phase is scheduled to be finished by 2025. The airport will serve over 100 million passengers annually when built to the maximum designed capacity. The project is the most expensive infrastructure project in Vietnam's history. It will replace the existing Tan Son Nhat International Airport as the city's main airport.
Thủ Thiêm New Urban Area is a 6.57 km2 (1,620-acre) urban redevelopment project in Thủ Đức City, Ho Chi Minh City. It is currently under construction.

The Saigon River Tunnel, more popular in Vietnam as the Thu Thiem Tunnel is an underwater tunnel that opened on November 20, 2011. It runs underneath the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city of Vietnam. The tunnel was built with capital from JICA's ODA, in conjunction with a consortium of Japanese contractors. The tunnel connects the existing urban center of Ho Chi Minh City with Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thủ Đức. The Saigon River Tunnel is part of the East-West Highway, an important road project under construction to ease the congestion of transport in the inner city as well as transportation from downtown to the Mekong Delta region. The existing downtown was previously only linked with the Thu Thiem New Urban Area by many bridges, namely: Thủ Thiêm Bridge, Phú Mỹ Bridge and Ba Son Bridge.
Saigon Bridge, known as Newport Bridge before 1975, is a bridge crossing the Saigon River, connecting Bình Thạnh District and District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, on the Hanoi Highway. The bridge has four lanes for cars and two lanes for motorcycles and bicycles. It was the only bridge linking District 1 to the new Thu Thiem New Urban Area in District 2 until the Thủ Thiêm Bridge opened in 2008 and the Saigon River Tunnel opened in 2011. The bridge was one of the most vital gateways for vehicles traveling from northern and central Vietnam to the city, and therefore was a key point of contention during the Tet Offensive in 1968 and the Fall of Saigon in 1975. In 2013, a new parallel bridge, Saigon 2 Bridge, was opened to ease congestion on the bridge.
District 2 is a former urban district of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. As of 2010, the district had a population of 140,621 and a total area of 50 km².
