The Best of Testament is the first compilation album by Testament. It was released in 1996 by their former labels Atlantic Records and Megaforce Records, and it contains tracks from their first album The Legacy (1987) to their then-recent album Low (1994). This compilation album has never been released in the United States, [1] and Testament (who had been dropped from Atlantic by this point) had no involvement with it.

Testament is an American thrash metal band from Berkeley, California. Formed in 1983 under the name Legacy, the band's current lineup comprises rhythm guitarist Eric Peterson, lead vocalist Chuck Billy, lead guitarist Alex Skolnick, bassist Steve Di Giorgio and drummer Chris Dovas. Testament has experienced many lineup changes over the years, with Peterson being the only remaining original member, though they have since reunited with Skolnick, who had been out of the band from 1992 to 2005. Billy has been a member of Testament since 1986, when he replaced original singer Steve "Zetro" Souza, who had left to replace Paul Baloff in Exodus. He and Peterson are the only members to appear on all of Testament's studio albums, with the latter being the only constant member overall. The band has released thirteen studio albums, four live albums, five compilation albums, thirteen singles and three DVDs. They are estimated to have sold over 1.4 million albums in the United States since the beginning of the SoundScan era, and over 14 million copies worldwide as of 2016.
Alex Skolnick is an American musician. He is best known as the lead guitarist and one of the songwriters of the thrash metal band Testament and has played with several other bands, including The Alex Skolnick Trio, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Savatage and the heavy metal supergroup Metal Allegiance.

The Ritual is the fifth studio album by American thrash metal band Testament, released on May 12, 1992 by Atlantic Records. Live at the Fillmore is a live album by the American thrash metal band Testament. It was released in 1995 on Spitfire Records. The first fourteen tracks are live recordings and the last three are semi-acoustic versions of previously-released songs. As of December 1999, Live at the Fillmore sold over 32,500 copies in the U.S.
Gregory Christian is an American musician who is the former bassist for thrash metal band Testament. He left the band in 1996, but rejoined in 2004 and left again in 2014. In addition to Testament, Christian has also played in HavocHate and Trinity Fallen, and later served as the bassist for Trauma. He is known for his finger playing style and jazz-like bass parts, which can be heard on Testament songs such as "Souls of Black" and "Disciples of the Watch", although he has also occasionally been seen using a guitar pick. Christian also performed backing vocals in Testament.
Signs of Chaos: The Best of Testament is a compilation album by Testament, released in 1997. Similar to their next collection The Very Best of Testament, it not only includes tracks from the band's tenure with Atlantic Records, but also two non-album tracks which are covers of Scorpions' "The Sails of Charon" and Aerosmith's "Draw the Line"; they were both released as B-sides on the 1994 CD single "Dog Faced Gods". Also included on this compilation album is "Demonic Refusal", a track from their then-latest album Demonic.
The Very Best of Testament is a compilation album by Testament, released in 2001. Like their previous two compilation albums The Best of Testament and Signs of Chaos, this one covers material from the band's tenure with Atlantic Records, though it omits any songs from Souls of Black. Also included on this compilation album is a live version of "Over the Wall" from the Return to the Apocalyptic City EP.
Eric Stanley Peterson is an American musician, best known as the rhythm guitarist of the thrash metal band Testament and is the only remaining original member left in the band, which first started in 1983 under the name Legacy. He and lead vocalist Chuck Billy are the only members to appear on all of the band's studio albums.
Louie Clemente is a former drummer for the Bay Area thrash metal band Testament. He is known for being a part of Testament's original lineup.

Charnett Moffett was an American jazz bassist. A consummate and versatile bassist, and composer, he was an apparent child prodigy. Moffett began playing bass in the family band, touring the Far East in 1975 at the age of eight. In the mid-1980s, he played with Wynton Marsalis and Branford Marsalis.
Alex Perialas is an American audio engineer, mixer, and record producer, best known for his extensive work during the "golden age" of thrash metal in the mid-1980s to early 1990s. Having worked with many of the genre's top acts, including Overkill, Testament, Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, S.O.D., and Flotsam & Jetsam, Perialas later went on to work with hardcore punk band Bad Religion, groove metal band Pro-Pain and hip–hop/rock band Such A Surge.

Practice What You Preach is the third studio album by American thrash metal band Testament, released in August 1989 via Atlantic/Megaforce. Propelled by the singles "Greenhouse Effect", "The Ballad" and the title track "Practice What You Preach", this album was a major breakthrough for Testament, achieving near gold status and becoming the band's first album to enter the Top 100 on the Billboard 200 chart.
