NGHBRS is an American rock band from Long Island, New York, formed in 2010. The band consists of Ian Kenny, Jordan Schneider and Tommy Fleischmann. The name of the band is concepted in "Neighbors".

Their debut album, Twenty One Rooms, was released on July 16, 2013, on Paper + Plastick and the album's lead single, "Hold Up Girl" received heavy media for its innovative use of Instagram. The band also have released 3 EPs Hellomind (2010), Hellomind (Reissue) (2011) and The NGHBRS Collection (2013).

History

Formation (2010–2011)

Formed in 2010 under the name Neighbors, [1] the band began playing shows throughout New England and released their debut EP, Hellomind, on August 17, 2010. [2] The band changed their name to NGHBRS is January 2011. The band played shows in the Northeast for the following year and steadily gained a healthy following. NGHBRS was featured in the AP&R section of the February 2010 issue of Alternative Press and the band quickly got the attention of producers and record labels. After a successful Kickstarter campaign to help the band join their first major tour with Anarbor in April 2011, [3] the band gained traction and began work on their debut album.

Twenty One Rooms (2012)

The band began recording their debut album, Twenty One Rooms, in the fall of 2012, with clips and acoustic versions of tracks being released throughout the first half of the year on various sites such as PureVolume, AbsolutePunk and Alternative Press and it was released on July 16, 2013. [4] Absolute Punk gave the album a 90% review [5] and fellow online reviews were generally positive.

The band has played with such acts as Third Eye Blind, Matt & Kim, New Politics, Bad Rabbits and Anarbor.

The band debuted their music video for “Hold Up Girl” on September 18, 2013, through the Wall Street Journal, with the publication calling it, “probably the cleverest DIY video since OK Go’s string of self-made clips a few years ago.” [6] The video was later featured in USA Today, [7] NYLON Guys, [8] Yahoo! News and Mashable. [9]

In September 2013, the band played a sold-out showcase at Brooklyn Bowl for NPR's Chris Douridas. The band played three showcases for the CMJ Music Marathon in October 2013, including one sold-out event at Sullivan Hall on October 18 [10] and was one of thewaster.com's, The Deli Magazine's [11] and Brooklyn Exposed's [12] top picks for the event. The band also were featured in their own four-minute segment on Fuse on October 30, 2013.

In 2014, Eric Vivelo left the band to pursue a career in musical education. Since then the band has released two new singles, "Golden Age" and "Small Talk". In 2015, Ian Kenny formed a new band called King Neptune, consisting of the current NGHBRS line-up with the addition of Steve Kupillas and Tom Costa.

The current lineup of the band consists of vocalist Dick Valentine, lead guitarist Johnny Na$hinal, keyboardist Tait Nucleus?, rhythm guitarist Da Vé, bassist Rob Lower and drummer Todd Glass. Live drummer Hyperkube Bonanza has filled in for Glass on most tours since 2016.

Kevin Devine American musician

Kevin Devine is an American songwriter and musician from Staten Island, New York City, who is known for his introspective and political themes. He is a contemporary member of the underground indie rock and indie folk musical scenes, and his influences range from older indie artists such as Neutral Milk Hotel, Elliott Smith and Pavement to more mainstream and well known acts such as Nirvana and Bob Dylan. In 2013, Kevin Devine rejoined his previous band, Miracle of 86, for a series of reunion shows.

Eleventyseven American pop punk band

Eleventyseven is an American pop punk band from Greenville, South Carolina which was formed in 2002. They chose the name "Eleventyseven" because "it's the one that looked cool the next morning". The band was originally signed to Flicker Records and released two albums with the label that charted on Christian music charts. After an independent streak, the band signed on to Sony Japan before returning to an independent status a year later. They continued to tour, self produce and release music independently until disbanding in September 2014.

Fiasco was an American, Brooklyn-based trio, formed in October 2005 by Jonathan Edelstein (guitar/vocals), Julian Bennett Holmes (drums), and Lucian Buscemi, although all three are multi-instrumentalists. They were known for their intense, high-energy music, their energetic live shows, and for playing off the venue's stage, in the round. They drew influences from early 1980s hardcore punk bands such as Minor Threat, Flipper and Bad Brains, as well as more recent noise and indie rock bands such as Lightning Bolt, Fugazi, and Shellac, and math rock bands including Hella and Don Caballero.

Anarbor American rock band

Anarbor is an American rock band from Phoenix, Arizona that was formed in 2003. The band is composed of lead vocalist, bassist and only constant member Slade Echeverria, guitarist Adam Juwig, guitarist Danny Stravers, and drummer William Wilson. Initially known as "Troop 101", the band later changed their name to "Anarbor". In April 2008, the band was signed to Hopeless Records while still attending high school in Arizona. Since then, the band has released four EPs and three studio albums.

Math the Band is an American chiptune-based synthpunk band from Providence, Rhode Island formed in 2001 by Kevin Steinhauser. Originally being a solo project by Steinhauser, the band's style has been sometimes called Nintendocore. The band has performed over 1000 shows throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the United Kingdom, touring with bands, artists and rappers such as Andrew W.K., Japanther, Wheatus, MC Frontalot, Horse the Band MC Chris, Peelander-Z, Anamanaguchi and MC Lars. The Griswolds are an Australian two-piece indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. The band have cited influences such as Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Kanye West, Devendra Banhart, Of Montreal, and The Beach Boys. The Griswolds signed with Wind-up Records in May 2013 and began recording their debut album shortly after with producer Tony Hoffer. They are named after the fictional family from the Vacation film series.

Burnout is the second studio album by alternative rock band Anarbor released by Hopeless Records. It was released on June 4, 2013. It peaked at #40 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. This was the last album to include guitarist Mike Kitlas and drummer Greg Garrity before their departure from the band in 2013.

State Champs is an American rock band from Albany, New York, formed in 2010. They are currently signed to Pure Noise Records and have released three EPs and three full-length albums. They released an acoustic EP titled The Acoustic Things in October 2014 and their second full-length album Around the World and Back one year later, in October 2015. In May 2017, they released a deluxe version of their album Around the World and Back, along with a DVD of footage from their last few tours. Their 2013 full-length, The Finer Things, debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Their third album, Living Proof, was released on June 15, 2018.

Julia Cumming American singer-songwriter

Julia Rachel Cumming is an American singer-songwriter who is the frontwoman and bass player of the Brooklyn-based band Sunflower Bean. Cumming models occasionally, and has modeled for several well known designers and has appeared in global campaigns for H&M and Diesel. Cumming is also a political activist and is active in the Model Alliance. She has produced and directed a video featuring her fellow models, encouraging young people to become politically active.
