Thirukural Express is a superfast express train in India, running between Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu which is the southernmost tip of the Indian Subcontinent, and Hazrat Nizamuddin in New Delhi. From December 2020, it runs with newly manufactured LHB rakes.

It is currently a bi-weekly train covering a distance of 2,919 kilometres (1,814 mi), making it one of the longest running superfast trains in the country. The train shares a common route and timetable with the Tamil Nadu Sampark Kranti Express from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Dindigul in return and from Madurai to Hazrat Nizamuddin in upward.

Origin of the name

Thirukkural is a book of verses on common ethics and morality written by Tamil Poet Thiruvalluvar. The train was named after the book, with the statue of Thiruvalluvar installed at Kanniyakumari

Timings

The 12641 Hazrat Nizzamuddin–Thirukkural Express departs Kanniyakumari every Wednesday and Friday at 19:05 IST (07:05 PM) and reaches Hazrat Nizamuddin every Friday and Sunday 18:30 IST (06:30 PM). It takes 47 hours and 30 minutes to complete journey. [1]

12642 Kanniyakumari–Thirukkural Express departs Hazrat Nizamuddin every Monday and Saturday at 05:20 IST (05:20 AM) and reaches Kanniyakumari every Wednesday and Monday at 04:45 IST (04:45 AM). It takes 47 hours and 25 minutes to complete journey. [2]

This train runs from Kanniyakumari via Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Kovilpatti, Sattur, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchirappalli Junction, Vriddhachalam, Viluppuram, Chengalpattu, Tambaram, Chennai Egmore, Vijayawada Junction, Balharshah, Nagpur Junction, Betul, Itarsi, Bhopal Junction, Jhansi Junction, Agra Cantonment to Hazrat Nizamuddin.

Kochuveli - Amritsar Weekly Express is a Express train of the Indian Railways connecting Kochuveli in Kerala and Amritsar Junction of Punjab. It is currently being operated with 12483/12483 train numbers on a weekly basis. It is running with an LHB rake W.E.F. 9 June 2019. It is the only train that connects Kerala with Amritsar. From 11, July 2021 it runs with new time. As per the new timetable 12483 departs Kochuveli at 09.15 hrs on every Wednesdays and reaches Amritsar at 13.50 hrs on every Fridays. In the return direction 12484 departs Amritsar at 05.55 hrs on every Sundays and reaches Kochuveli at 12.25 hrs on every Tuesdays. During monsoon periods over Konkan route the travelling time will be changed.

The 22671/22672 Chennai Egmore–Madurai Junction Tejas Express is India's second semi-high speed Tejas Express introduced by Indian Railways connecting Chennai Egmore and Madurai Junction in Tamil Nadu, after Mumbai CSMT–Karmali Tejas Express. It is currently being operated with 22671/22672 train numbers on six days a week basis.

The Chennai Central–Madurai Junction Central SF Express is a Superfast express train connecting Chennai and Madurai which lies in Southern Railway zone of Tamil Nadu State in India. This was the first train operated by Southern Railways with newly manufactured AC Three Tier Economy Coach. This train will be operated from weekly to tri-weekly with effect from 10 June 2020 from Chennai and 11 June 2020 from Madurai. There is no changes in timings. It will depart from Chennai on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Earlier it used to run as a fully air conditioned express, but after August 2021, 4 Sleeper Class coaches were attached. Initially it ran only one day a week from Chennai Central - Madurai by sharing its rakes with Chennai Central - Madurai AC Duronto Express. After June 2020, Duronto Express was fully cancelled and it was made into run on the days which Duranto ran. Also additional stoppages were given at Katpadi, Karur, and Dindigul. In return it will leave from Madurai on every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. It was the first train to carry AC Three Tier Economy Coach in Southern Railway, though some trains carrying 3 Tier Economy Coach passes through Southern Railway Zone, they aren't belonged to Southern railway. From 25th February 2021, it will run with 1 more additional coach, i.e., AC Three Tier Economy.
