Tigran Petrosian Chess House (Armenian : Տիգրան Պետրոսյանի անվան Շախմատի Տուն), officially the Central House of Chess-player named after Tigran Petrosian (Armenian : Տիգրան Պետրոսյանի անվան Շախմատիստի Կենտրոնական Տուն), is the centre of the sport of chess in Yerevan, Armenia. It was opened in 1970. In 1984, it was renamed after the former world chess champion Tigran Petrosian . [1] The architect of the triangular-shaped building was Zhanna Meshcheryakova. Tigran Petrosian laid the first stone in the foundation of the building. Currently, the director of the centre is Hrachik Tavadyan.

The chess house is located on Khanjyan street, within the Circular Park of the Kentron district. It is home to the Yerevan chess school operating since 1971.

According to many visitors, the chess house is one of the best chess centers in the world. Many great international events have been regularly held in the building, including the Tigran Petrosian Memorial. [2] It is also the venue of the yearly domestic championship. [3]

The Tigran Petrosian Chess House publishes the "Shakhmatayin Hayastan" weekly (Armenian : Շախմատային Հայաստան, meaning Chess in Armenia) since 1972.

In 1989, the statue of the champion Tigran Petrosian, created by the Armenian sculptor Ara Shiraz, was erected in front of the chess house. [4]

In 2002, the Chess Academy of Armenia was opened.

The chess house is also serving as the home of the Chess Federation of Armenia. The president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, is the current head of the Chess Federation of Armenia.

The building of the chess house is listed among the historic and cultural monuments of the city of Yerevan.

Yerevan Opera Theatre

Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan in Yerevan was officially opened on 20 January 1933, with Alexander Spendiaryan's Almast opera performance. The opera building was designed by the Armenian architect Alexander Tamanian. It consists of two concert halls: the Aram Khatchaturian concert hall with 1,400 seats and the Alexander Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Theatre with 1,200 seats.

The Circular Park ; also known as the Youth Park, is a public park in the Kentron district of the Armenian capital Yerevan. It starts with the Cathedral of Saint Gregory at the south on Tigran Mets street, and ends up with the Poplavok lake at the north near Mashtots Avenue. The park lies along Khanjyan, Yervand Kochar, Alex Manoogian, Moskovian and Isahakyan streets, forming a half-circular shaped park around the eastern part of downtown Yerevan. Monte Melkonian Military College

Officially, Military and Sports College named after Monte Melkonian, is a high school and military educational institution operated by the Ministry of Defence of Armenia. It was founded in 1993 in Yerevan and is currently based in Dilijan since its relocation in 2017. The college is named after Lieutenant-Colonel Monte Melkonian, a National Hero of Armenia killed in 1993 during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Currently, 194 cadets are enrolled in the college, who come from all over Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh. The current director of the college is Gegham Sargsyan.
