History

In the early nineteen forties an industrialist in India intended to commission an industrial project. However, the project was delayed due to an unexpected circumstances. When the equipment and spares finally reached, the project was significantly delayed and project cost was higher than the budgeted. This occasion was considered as an opportunity by Alan Ramsay, Charles Porter and Robert Wilson, the original founders of TIL Limited. In July of 1944, Tractors India Limited (TIL) was incorporated in the city of Kolkata, at that time the financial capital of India, as the authorised dealer of a renowned crane manufaturer.

Network & Infrastructure

Headquartered in Kolkata, TIL has got regional offices in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, with a network of branches and area offices across the country. This Company has two factories in Eastern India – a plant at Kamarhatty, Kolkata, certified under national and international standards, and ERP-enabled plant at Kharagpur, West Bengal.

TIL Kamarhatty Works is located approximately 5 km from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at Kolkata and about 16 km and 100 km respectively from the maritime ports at Kolkata and Haldia. The factory is engaged primarily in the manufacturing of truck cranes and rough terrain cranes and supplying specialized equipment to Indian Defence. The plant fabricates structural components for cranes, while the engines, axles and other components are imported from external sources and assembled locally.

TIL Kharagpur Works is equidistant from the state capital, Kolkata, and the steel city of Jamshedpur (~150 kms either way) on one hand and from the two maritime ports at Kolkata and Haldia (~150 kms either way) on the other. It is primarily involved in the production of tyre-mounted container handling equipment, crushing & screening equipment, hot mix asphalt plants, pick & carry cranes, specialized defence equipment, etc.

Leadership Profile

Mr Sumit Mazumder is the Chairman of the Board of TIL Limited since June 1, 2014, and also has been its Managing Director since July 1995. Previously, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of TIL Limited and as Vice Chairman from April 2008 to June 1, 2014.

Corporate Social Responsibility

As a responsible corporate establishment, TIL is engaged in number of CSR projects aimed toward the betterment of the society, community and environment – reaching out to the underprivileged, the in another way abled, the vintage and infirm TIL additionally provides education (with month-to-month stipend) to nearby people within the area of its manufacturing locations, in affiliation with commercial education Institutes / Centers.
