Danish Defence is the unified armed forces of the Kingdom of Denmark charged with the defence of Denmark and its constituent,self-governing nations Greenland and the Faroe Islands. The Defence also promote Denmark's wider interests,support international peacekeeping efforts and provide humanitarian aid.

Chief warrant officer is a military rank used by the United States Armed Forces,the Canadian Armed Forces,the Pakistan Air Force,the Israel Defense Forces,the South African National Defence Force,the Lebanese Armed Forces and,since 2012,the Singapore Armed Forces. HDMS Olfert Fischer (F355) was a Niels Juel-class corvette of the Kongelige Danske Marine. The vessel was laid down in December 1978 and commissioned in October 1981. The corvette operated in the Persian Gulf on two occasions,first in 1990 and 1991 as part of the multinational fleet enforcing the United Nations sanctions against Iraq,then again in 2003 in support of the United States-led invasion of Iraq. Olfert Fischer was deployed as part of the NATO Standing Naval Force Atlantic on at least four occasions during her career.

Exercise Mainbrace was the first large-scale naval exercise undertaken by the newly established Allied Command Atlantic (ACLANT),one of the two principal military commands of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Operation Nanook is an annual sovereignty operation and manoeuvre warfare exercise conducted by the Canadian Armed Forces in the Arctic. Sovereignty patrols in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and northern Canada are conducted by the Canadian Rangers,Canadian Coast Guard in tandem with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The exercise portion is intended to train the different elements of the Canadian Armed Forces to operate in the Arctic environment.
