Timothy W. Tong (Chinese :唐偉章) (born 1953 in Hong Kong) is a former president of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He became President on 1 January 2009, [1] succeeding Poon Chung Kwong. After stepping down,his post was taken over by Philip C. H. Chan as interim President. [2] Prior to obtaining the presidency,Tong was Dean of School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at George Washington University in the United States. [3]
Tong received his secondary education at Hong Kong Christian College in Hong Kong. He pursued tertiary education in the United States where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 1976 and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in the same discipline from the University of California at Berkeley in 1978 and 1980 respectively.
Tong is famous for his academic achievements in the field of mechanical engineering. He has authored seven books and conference proceedings and published more than 80 technical articles in international journals. [4]
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a public research university in Hung Hom,Kowloon,Hong Kong. The university is one of the eight government-funded degree-granting tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. Lam Tai-fai,SBS,BBS,JP is a Hong Kong politician. He serves as Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI). He was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for the Industrial Functional Constituency from 2008 to 2016. In 2008 he began service as a committee member on the 11th,12th and 13th National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,and as a standing member of the 11th and in 2009 joined 12th Henan Provincial Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Ping Li is currently Sin Wai Kin Professor in Humanities and Technology,Chair Professor of Neurolinguistics and Bilingual Studies,and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Prior to joining PolyU,he was a Professor of Psychology,Linguistics,and Information Sciences and Technology,and Associate Director of the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences at Pennsylvania State University. His research interests are in language acquisition,bilingualism,and reading comprehension in both children and adults. He uses digital technologies and cognitive neuroscience methods to study neuroplasticity and individual differences in learning,so as to understand the relationships among languages,cultures,technology,and the brain. Li received a B.A. in Chinese linguistics from Peking University in 1983,an M.A. in theoretical linguistics from Peking University,a Ph.D. in psycholinguistics from Leiden University and the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in 1990,and completed post-doctoral fellowships at the Center for Research in Language at the University of California,San Diego and the McDonnell-Pew Center for Research in Cognitive Neuroscience in 1992. Li has been employed at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (1992–1996),the University of Richmond (1996–2006),and Pennsylvania State University (2008–2019),and he has also served as Program Director for the Perception,Action,and Cognition Program and the Cognitive Neuroscience Program at the National Science Foundation (2007–2009). Li was also President of the Society for Computation in Psychology and is currently Editor of Brain and Language,Elsevier and Senior Editor of Cognitive Science,Wiley. He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

He was also appointed the chair of professional accreditation panel for APEC/IPEA for Korea. From 2014 to 2016,he was the Alex Wong/Gigi Wong Endowed Professor in Product Engineering Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HPKU). Currently,he is a Fellow of European Academy of Sciences and Arts,the European Academy of Sciences. Lau has conducted research in the field of mechanical engineering,aerospace engineering and materials engineering. His work has been focused on aerospace composites,unmanned aerial vehicle,product design and engineering and bio-composites. Lau is recognized as Australian National Research Leader in Composite Materials 2019,published by The Australian Post. Within the period 2020-2022,he was director of Oceania Cybersecurity Centre Limited and Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory Company. He has been named as “2023 年度傑出人物”and “2024 年度全球傑出華人領袖”. Currently,he has been appointed as 中氫聚力首席技術官,莞港創科合作顧問委員會成員and 力嘉(上海)新能源有限公司首席顧. Dr. Lau also established two academician workstations (院士工作站) with Basalt Fibre Composites Development Company Limited and Hebei University of Technology supported by Sichuan’s and Tianjin’s provincial Governments,respectively to support the conversion of new technologies,like basalt fibre reinforced polymer composites and 3D printed concrete bridges to the industry.
Qingyan (Yan) Chen (陳清焰) is the Director of the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR) and Chair Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University,active in the field of building science. He is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University in the United States. He is the editor-in-chief of the academic journal Building and Environment.
Philip C. H. Chan was the Deputy President and Provost of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU),who is currently Emeritus Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The PolyU Faculty of Construction and Environment is one of the faculty at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
