Timothy Yang or Yang Chin-tien (Chinese :楊進添; pinyin :Yáng Jìntiān;born 1 July 1942) is a Taiwanese diplomat and former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary-General to the President of the Republic of China,serving under President Ma Ying-Jeou. [3]
Yang was born in Ershui,Changhua County [4] and earned his bachelor's degree in diplomacy at the National Chengchi University.
When veteran diplomat Francisco Ou resigned with the Cabinet of Premier Liu Chao-Shiuan in September 2009,President Ma Ying-Jeou named Yang to the post,to serve in the newly formed Cabinet of incoming Premier Wu Den-yih. [5] Prior to becoming Foreign Minister,Yang served as representative to Ireland,Australia, [6] and Indonesia. [7] As Minister of Foreign Affairs he also holds the position of vice-chairman within the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy.
Commenting on the truck attack to the ROC Presidential Office Building in January 2014,Yang said that a team will be established and charged with improving security around the building. [8]
Ma Ying-jeou is a Hong Kong-born Taiwanese politician who served as President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2008 to 2016. His previous political roles include Justice Minister (1993–96) and Mayor of Taipei (1998–2006). He was also the Chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) between 2005–2007 and 2009–2014.
Presidential elections were held in the Republic of China held on 22 March 2008. Kuomintang (KMT) nominee Ma Ying-jeou won with 58% of the vote,ending eight years of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rule. Along with the 2008 legislative election,Ma's landslide victory brought the Kuomintang back to power in the Republic of China.
Wu Po-hsiung is a Taiwanese politician who is a former chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT). He has been the Interior Minister (1984-1988),Mayor of Taipei (1988–1990),Secretary-General to the President (1991–1996),and Chairman of the KMT (2007-2009). Wu was nominated as Honorary Chairman of the Kuomintang when he was succeeded by Ma Ying-jeou as the Chairman of the Kuomintang.

Liao Feng-teh was a Taiwanese politician who held leadership positions in the Kuomintang. Liao was chosen to become the Interior Minister designate in 2008 under Republic of China President Ma Ying-jeou,following Ma's victory in the Taiwanese Presidential Election of 2008. However,Liao,Deputy Secretary-General of the Kuomintang,died of cardiopulmonary failure while hiking on May 10,2008,before he could take office.
Francisco H.L. Ou was a Taiwanese diplomat. He was ambassador of the Republic of China to Nicaragua and Guatemala before serving as foreign minister during the Ma Ying-jeou presidential administration.
Wu Den-yih is a Taiwanese politician. He graduated from National Taiwan University and worked as a journalist before beginning a career in politics with a 1973 appointment to the Taipei City Council. Wu was then elected Magistrate of Nantou County,serving from 1981 to 1989. Following two terms as magistrate,he was named Mayor of Kaohsiung in 1990. Wu remained mayor until 1998,having won the office in a 1994 direct election. He then served two full terms in the Legislative Yuan from 2002 to 2008. Shortly after winning a third term in the legislature,Wu was named Premier of the Republic of China in 2009. He served until 2012,when he and Ma Ying-jeou formed the Kuomintang (KMT) presidential ticket. Wu served one four-year term as Vice President of the Republic of China,stepping down in 2016. In May 2017,he was elected party chairman. Wu stepped down from the position in January 2020. Previously,Wu had served the KMT as secretary-general from 2007 to 2009,first vice chairman in 2014,and as acting chairman in 2014 and 2015.
Vanessa Shih is a Taiwanese diplomat who was appointed the representative of Republic of China to Austria in January 2016. She previously led the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore from 2009 to 2012,when she was named vice minister of foreign affairs. As vice minister Shih advocated for the United Nations to allow the Republic of China to have participation of some forms within the UN.
Eric Chu Li-luan is a Taiwanese politician. He was born into a political family with strong Kuomintang (KMT) ties,and served as Vice Premier of the Republic of China,under Premier Wu Den-yih. Prior to this,Chu served as legislator and as the magistrate of Taoyuan County. He was elected as the first mayor of the newly established city of New Taipei on 27 November 2010. On 17 January 2015,he was elected unopposed as Chairman of the Kuomintang,succeeding Ma Ying-jeou. On 17 October 2015,he was chosen as KMT candidate for the 2016 presidential election replacing incumbent candidate Hung Hsiu-chu. Chu was defeated by his opponent Tsai Ing-wen,and subsequently resigned his post as KMT chairman. He was succeeded as mayor of New Taipei by Hou You-yi in 2018.
