Timrå Municipality (Timrå kommun) is a municipality in Västernorrland County, Sweden. The town of Timrå is the municipal seat.

The rural municipality Timrå was made a market town ( köping ) in 1947. The present municipality was created in 1971 when Timrå was amalgamated with Hässjö.

Geography

Timrå is located in a terrain of forest and hills. Traditionally the industry has been dominated by forestry. The timber was transported through the rivers and streams to their destination, most often to sawmills. In tribute to this, the city arms depicts trees and water.

Timrå IK

Timrå IK is a professional Swedish ice hockey team based in Timrå, north of Sundsvall. After winning the 2021 SHL qualifiers, Timrå has been promoted for play in the top-tier league, Swedish Hockey League (SHL), in the 2021–22 season. Previous seasons in the top Swedish division include 1956–57 to 1975–76, 1977–78, 1981–82, 2000–01 to 2012–13 and 2018-19. The team's home venue is NHC Arena with a capacity of 6 000 spectators.

Henrik Forsberg is a Swedish former cross-country skier and biathlete who competed from 1988 to 2001. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he earned his best finishes at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville in cross-country skiing with a fourth in the 4 × 10 km relay and ninth in the 10 km + 15 km combined pursuit.

Jerring Award

The Jerring Award is a prize established by Radiosporten, the sport section of Sveriges Radio, voted by its radio audience who choose the Swedish athlete or team that has made the best sport performance of the year. The prize is named after Swedish radio personality Sven Jerring. It is also called "the prize of the people", since it is the radio audience who vote. There has around 2010-2019 been criticism on the fact that there has been campaigns within sports with many amateurs, so that golf and horse jumping has been awarded.
