Tin Wing (Chinese :天榮) is an MTR Light Rail stop. It is located at ground level beside Tin Shing Road in Tin Shui Wai Town Centre, Yuen Long District. It began service on 26 March 1995 and belongs to Zone 4. [1]
The stop was originally named Tin Shui Wai Terminus (Chinese :天水圍總站). To avoid confusion with the new Tin Shui Wai station (Chinese :天水圍站) on the KCRC West Rail (now part of the MTR Tuen Ma line), which has a light rail station of the same name, its name was changed to Tin Wing. [2] The change came into effect on 1 August 2003. [3]
On 7 December 2003, two extensions of the light rail network in Tin Shui Wai came into service, namely the Tin Shui Wai Phase 4 Extension and Tin Shui Wai Reserve Zone Extension, two weeks before the opening of the new West Rail commuter line. [4] [5] This transformed Tin Wing from the terminus of the line into an intermediate station. At the same time, the 720 (Tin Wing–Yau Oi) and 721 (Tin Wing–Yuen Long Terminus) routes were replaced with routes 751 (Tin Yat–Yau Oi) and 761 (Tin Wing–Yuen Long), respectively. [5]
Route 761 was discontinued on 8 October 2006. [6] [7] In other words, there is no longer a direct service from Tin Wing stop to Yuen Long.
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCR) successfully applied to the Town Planning Board to allow a property development above the then-Tin Shui Wai Terminus. When the MTR Corporation (MTRC) and Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation merged their operations in 2007, the MTRC purchased various KCR property development rights, including the Tin Wing project. The original plans included four 43-storey blocks with 1,600 flats. [8]
In February 2015, the MTR Corporation signed an agreement with developer Sun Hung Kai Properties to jointly develop the site as a three-tower development with 1,930 flats and a commercial element. [9] Tin Wing stop was reconfigured as a conventional side platform station along Tin Shing Road, and the other platforms as well as the loop tracks were demolished to make way for the construction project, which is expected to be completed in 2024.
In July 2018, the MTR Corporation disclosed that subsidence had been detected at platform 7 between October 2017 and 25 June 2018, as a result of the construction of the adjacent property development; and that Sun Hung Kai Properties was asked to suspend work after a limit of 80 mm (3.1 in) was breached on 25 June. Light rail drivers were apparently told by MTRC management to slow down upon approaching the stop without being informed why. The corporation was criticised by some legislators, including Roy Kwong of the Democratic Party, for not having previously publicly disclosed that the incident had happened. [10]
According to the Hong Kong government, the situation was examined by the Buildings Department (BD) and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD). The Buildings Department subsequently agreed to raise the acceptable subsidence limit from 80 to 150 mm. In May 2019, the government gave the go-ahead for construction work to resume. [11] The government stated that BD, EMSD, and MTRC would continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of railway operations. [12]
The Kowloon–Canton Railway was a railway network in Hong Kong. It was owned and operated by the Kowloon–Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) until 2007. Rapid transit services, a light rail system, feeder bus routes within Hong Kong, and intercity passenger and freight train services to China on the KCR network, have been operated by the MTR Corporation since 2007.
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation is a Hong Kong wholly government-owned railway and land asset manager. It was established in 1982 under the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation Ordinance for the purposes of operating the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR), and to construct and operate other new railways. On 2 December 2007, the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL), another railway operator in Hong Kong, took over the operations of the KCR network under a 50-year service concession agreement, which can be extended. Under the service concession, KCRC retains ownership of the KCR network with the MTRCL making annual payments to KCRC for the right to operate the network. The KCRC's activities are governed by the KCRC Ordinance as amended in 2007 by the Rail Merger Ordinance to enable the service concession agreement to be entered into with the MTR Corporation Limited.
The Kwun Tong line is a rapid transit line of the MTR network in Hong Kong, coloured green on the MTR map. Starting at Whampoa in Hung Hom and ending at Tiu Keng Leng in Tseung Kwan O, Sai Kung, the route has 17 stations and takes 35 minutes to complete. The Kwun Tong line is one of the busiest railway lines on the network connecting the central and the eastern portions of Kowloon via Wong Tai Sin. The line is mostly underground, but includes a lengthy elevated section, and runs generally in an east-west direction. During the morning rush hour, the Kwun Tong line utilises 33 trains running at 2.1-minute-intervals to achieve a route capacity of 85,000 pphpd.
The West Rail line was a rapid transit line that formed part of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system in Hong Kong until 27 June 2021. Coloured magenta on the MTR map, the line ran from Tuen Mun to Hung Hom, with a total length of 35.7 kilometres (22.2 mi), in 37 minutes. The railway connected the urban area of Kowloon and the new towns of Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun in the northwestern New Territories.
The Light Rail, also known as the Light Rail Transit (LRT), officially the North-West Railway, is a light rail system in Hong Kong, serving the northwestern New Territories, within Tuen Mun District and Yuen Long District. The system operates over 1,435 mmstandard gauge track, using 750 V DC overhead power supply. It was once one of four systems comprising the KCR network in Hong Kong, before the MTR–KCR merger in 2007. It has a daily ridership of about 483,000 people.
Tin Shui Wai is an MTR station on the Tuen Ma line, located in Ping Shan near Tin Shui Wai New Town, Yuen Long District. It is the only heavy rail station serving Tin Shui Wai, which has a population of around 300,000.
The East Rail line is one of the ten lines that form MTR, the mass transit system in Hong Kong. The railway line starts at Admiralty on Hong Kong Island, and bifurcates in the north at Sheung Shui to terminate at Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau stations, both of which are boundary crossing points into Shenzhen. At approximately 45.8 km (28.5 mi), the line is the second longest line within the network, behind the Tuen Ma line. The line's colour is light blue.
Sheung Shui is the penultimate northbound station on the East Rail line in Hong Kong. This station serves as the terminus of northbound trains after the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau boundary crossings have closed for the day. It is also the last northbound station on the East Rail line that passengers without a Closed Area Permit, Mainland Travel Permit, or valid passport and mainland Chinese visa may freely travel to.
The Kowloon Southern link is a section of the MTR Tuen Ma line, linking Nam Cheong station and East Tsim Sha Tsui station. The rail link is fully underground, lies along the south-west coastline of Kowloon Peninsula, east of rail tracks of the Tung Chung line and Airport Express. Kowloon Southern Link has one underground intermediate station called Austin station. It is located adjacent to the Canton Road Government Offices, close to Kowloon station of Tung Chung line and Airport Express. However, the structures do not provide a direct transfer between the two stations.
Citylink Plaza is a building that stands above Sha Tin station on the MTR East Rail line in Hong Kong. It was developed and is owned by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC). The building, as well as the railway station, is connected to New Town Plaza, which is one of the largest shopping centres in Sha Tin District.
MTR Bus is a public non-franchised bus service in Hong Kong operated by the MTR Corporation, serving the northwestern part of the New Territories. It comprises a network of 22 feeder bus routes for the convenience of passengers using the MTR rapid transit network, providing access to and between many MTR stations on the Tuen Ma line and Light Rail.
The Sha Tin to Central Link was an expansion project of the MTR public transport network in Hong Kong. It was divided into two sections and expanded the network’s heavy rail lines.
The East Rail line Metro Cammell EMU was a model of electric multiple unit built in 1980–1990 by Metro-Cammell for the original Kowloon–Canton Railway in Hong Kong. The 29 sets were owned by and were originally operated by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC). They were operated by MTR Corporation (MTRC) after it merged with KCRC in 2007. Although another set of EMU trains from the same manufacturer operate on some of MTR's own lines, there are some significant differences between the two models, with the Metro Cammell EMUs of the original MTR being known as the Modernization Train.
The Guangzhou–Kowloon through train was an inter-city railway service between Hong Kong and Guangzhou jointly operated by the MTR Corporation of Hong Kong and the Guangzhou Railway Group of mainland China. Services operate along the East Rail line within Hong Kong territory, crossing the Hong Kong–Chinese border at Lo Wu, and continuing along the Guangmao Railway and Guangshen Railway in Guangdong province.
The Tuen Ma line is a rapid transit and commuter rail line that forms part of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system in Hong Kong. Coloured brown on the map, the Tuen Ma line is 56.2 kilometres (34.9 mi) in length, making it the longest line of the MTR network. It has a total of 27 stations, more than any other in the MTR system.
Hang Mei Tsuen is an MTR Light Rail stop. It is located at ground level at Ping Ha Road near Hang Mei Tsuen in Ping Shan, Yuen Long District. It began service on 10 January 1993 and belongs to Zone 4.
Tin Yiu is an MTR Light Rail stop. It is located at ground level at Tin Shui Road near Tin Yiu Estate in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long District. It began service on 10 January 1993 and belongs to Zone 4. It serves Tin Yiu Estate and Tin Shing Court.
Tin Yiu Estate is a public housing estate in Tin Shui Wai, New Territories, Hong Kong, near Light Rail Tin Yiu stop, Tin Tsz stop and Tin Shui Wai stop as well as MTR Tin Shui Wai station. It is the first public housing estate in Tin Shui Wai New Town. It is divided into Tin Yiu (I) Estate and Tin Yiu (II) Estate, and consists of 12 residential buildings completed in 1992 and 1993.
Hong Kong's rail network mainly comprises public transport trains operated by the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRC). The MTRC operates the metro network of the territory and the commuter rail network connecting the northeastern, northwestern and southwestern New Territories to the urban areas. The operations of the territory's two leading railway companies, MTRC and the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC), were merged in 2007 on grounds of economies of scale and cost effectiveness. The Hong Kong Government has an explicit stated transport policy of using railways as its transport backbone.
