Khōst is the capital city of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It is the largest city in the southeastern part of the country, and also the largest in the region of Loya Paktia. To the south and east of Khost lie Waziristan and Kurram in Pakistan. Khost is the home of Shaikh Zayed University. Khost Airport serves the city as well as the larger region surrounding the city.

This is a list of districts of Afghanistan, known as wuleswali. These are secondary level administrative units, one level below the provinces. The Afghan government issued its first district map in 1973. It recognized 325 districts, counting wuleswalis (districts), alaqadaries (sub-districts), and markaz-e-wulaiyat. In the ensuing years additional districts have been added through splits, and a few eliminated through mergers. In June 2005, the Afghan government issued a map of 398 districts. It was widely adopted as by many information management systems, though usually with the addition of Sharak-e-Hayratan for a 399 district total. It remains the de facto standard, as of late 2018, despite a string of government announcements of the creation of new districts.
The Zazi, also spelled Zazai, or Jaji, is a Karlani Pashtun tribe. They are found in Paktia and Khost provinces in the Loya Paktia region of southeastern Afghanistan, as well as Kurram Valley of Pakistan, but also have an effective presence in Kabul, Logar, Ghazni, Nangharhar, Kunduz, and Baghlan in Afghanistan.
Khost wa Fereng or Khost wa Fring is the easternmost district of Baghlan province, Afghanistan in the Hindu Kush mountains. Its capital is Khost wa Fereng. The population of the district was estimated to be around 60300 in 2011–2012, of which ethnic Tajiks made up 90% and Hazaras 10% of the total population.
Gurbuz District is situated in the southern part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders Tani District to the west, Mando Zayi and Khost districts to the north and Pakistan to the east and south. The population is 23,200 (2006). The district center is the village of Sekhamir Kalay situated in the northwestern part of the district. It is inhabited by Gurbuz, a Wazir subtribe.
Zazi Maidan District, or Jaji Maidan or Dzadzi Maidan, is located in the northeastern part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders Bak District to the west, Paktia Province to the north, and the Kurram Agency of Pakistan to the north and east. The estimated population is 26,766 (2019). The district center is the village of Zazi Maidan, situated in the eastern part of the district.
Khost (Matun) District is situated in the central and eastern part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. The district center is the town of Khost. Khost Airfield is situated 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of the town of Khost.
Musakhel District is situated in the northern part of the Khost Province, Afghanistan. The district is within the heartland of the Ahmadzai tribe of Ghilji Pashtuns. It borders with Paktia Province to the north, Sabari District to the east, Khost (Matun) District to the south, Nadir Shah Kot District to the southwest and Qalandar District to the west. The population is 36,300 (2006). The district center is the village of Musakhel in the northern part of the district.
Nadir Shah Kot District is situated in the western part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders Paktia Province and Shamal District to the west, Qalandar District to the north, Musa Khel District to the northeast, Khost (Matun) District to the east, Mando Zayi District to the southeast and Tani and Spera districts to the south.
Qalandar District is situated in the western part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders Paktia Province to the west, Musa Khel District to the north and east and Nadir Shah Kot District to the south. The population is 9,100 (2006). The district center is the village of Khost Mela33.5150°N 69.6778°E.
Sabari District is situated in the northern part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders Musa Khel District to the west, Paktia Province to the north, Bak District to the east and Tere Zayi and Khost districts to the south.
Spera District is situated in the most southwestern part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders with Paktia Province to the south and west, Shamal District to the north. The district is within the heartland of the Zadran tribe of Pashtuns. To the east it borders Nadir Shah Kot and Tani districts and Pakistan. The population is 21,500 people. The district center is the village of Spera, situated in the central part of the district.
Shamal District is situated in the western part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. The district is within the heartland of the Kharoti tribe of Pashtuns. It borders Paktia Province to the west, Nadir Shah Kot District to the east and Spera District to the south. The population is 12,200 (2006). The district center is the village of Shamal, situated in the eastern part of the district. It was moved from Paktia Province.
Mandozai District, also known as Ismail Khel, is situated in the central part of Khost Province, Afghanistan. It borders Nadir Shah Kot District to the north and west, Khost (Matun) District to the east, Gurbuz District to the southwest and Tani District to the south. The population is 50,000 (2006). The district center is the village of Dadwal.
Warsaj District is a district of Takhar Province, northern Afghanistan.
Janikhel is a district in Paktia Province, Afghanistan. It is on the border with Khost Province, and is mostly inhabited by the Wazir and Mangal tribes of Pashtuns.
