The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company (Bengali : তিতাস গ্যাসTitas Gas) is the natural gas distributor in Bangladesh, with an 80% market share. As of 2020, they employed 2,100 staff and served 2.8 million domestic customers, 12,000 commercial customers, and 5,300 industrial customers. History

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company was established on 20 November 1964 following the discovery of gas in Titas in 1962. On 28 April 1968, commercial activities started with the supply of gas to Siddhirganj Thermal Power Station through the Titas-Demra gas pipeline. The pipeline was constructed by East Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation. On 9 June 2008, the company was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange and on 19 June 2008 it was listed on the Chittagong Stock Exchange. [4]

Location of the field

The Gas field is located some 100 km away to the direction of northern-east from capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka. It lies at the outskirts of Brahmanbaria town. This field was discovered by Pakistan Shell Oil Company in 1962. The structure is an elongate north–south asymmetrical anticline measuring about 19x10 square km with a vertical closure of 500 m. As per latest official re-estimation, total recoverable gas reserve of Titas gas field is 4,740 billion cubic feet (134 km3). Commercial gas production from this field was commenced in 1968 and till 31 August 2006 total 2,581.162 billion cubic feet (7.30904×1010 m3) gas has been produced. The wells are spread (surface location) at 6 (six) different locations stretched over about 8 km distance. At present maximum 475 million cubic feet (13,500,000 m3) of gas is produced daily from 16 wells of this field and processing through 5 nos. glycol dehydration and 6 nos. Low Temperature Separation (LTS) type process plants and supplied to the transmission pipelines of Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution Co. Ltd. (TGTDCL) and Gas Transmission Company Ltd. (GTCL). Condensate produced (540 bbl per day on an average) with gas as by-product is fractionated into MS (Petrol) and HSD(Diesel) through two fractionation plants. [5]

However, the country faces an acute energy crisis in meeting the demands of its vast and growing population. Bangladesh is a net importer of crude oil and petroleum products. The energy sector is dominated by state-owned companies, including Petrobangla and the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation. Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Equinor, Gazprom and ONGC are major international companies engaged in Bangladesh's hydrocarbon industry, with Chevron's gas fields accounting for 50% of natural gas production.

Chhatak Gas Field is a natural gas field located in Chhatak Upazila, Sunamganj District, Bangladesh. This company is under the control of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX). For the first time in Bangladesh, gas connection was provided to the industrial sector from this gas field in 1959. In 1960, it provided approximately 4 million cubic feet of gas per day to Chhatak Cement Factory as well as pulp and paper mills.

Narsingdi Gas Field is a natural gas field located in Narsingdi District, Bangladesh. It is a company under the control of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited.

Habiganj Gas Field is a natural gas field located in Habiganj district of Bangladesh. It is controlled by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited.

Rashidpur Gas Field is a natural gas field located in Habiganj, Bangladesh. In 1960, Pakistan Shell Oil Company discovered it. In 1975, this gas field came under the control of the Government of Bangladesh. It is one of the sixth gasfields owned and operated by a government company, Sylhet Gas Fields Company Limited.

Sangu Gas Field is a natural gas field in Bangladesh. It is the only offshore gas field in Bangladesh that is currently abandoned. This gas field was discovered in 1996 in the Bay of Bengal 50km away from the land near Silimpur, Chittagong. Santos, an Australian multinational company was in charge of operation of the gas field. Its production was closed in 2014. To store the imported LNG, the government of Bangladesh is planning to convert the offshore gas field into an underground storage, where 487.91 billion cubic feet of gas can be stored. Currently in Bangladesh, there are 22 onshore blocks and 26 offshore blocks. Among these offshore blocks, 11 are shallow blocks, where the other 15 are deep sea blocks.

Titas Gas Field is a natural gas field located in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh. It is the largest gas field in Bangladesh. From where, around 300 million cubic feet of gas is being extracted daily. It is a subsidiary of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL). The geo-structure of the gas field area is dome-shaped, with an area of about 64 square kilometers.

Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited is a Bangladeshi state-owned gas distribution company in the Sylhet Division. Nazmul Ahsan is a Bangladesh government owned natural gas distribution company in the Sylhet Division. It is one of the three largest gas distribution companies in Bangladesh; the other two are Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited and Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited. Nazmul Ahsan is the Chairman of Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited.

Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited is a Bangladesh government owned natural gas company responsible for supplying natural gas in the North-western part of Bangladesh.
