To the Beautiful You (Hangul: 아름다운 그대에게 OST) is the original soundtrack album to the 2012 South Korean television drama series of the same name which aired from August 15 to October 4, 2012 on SBS for 16 episodes. The album contains a total of ten soundtracks, eight of which were released as four A-side and B-side digital singles prior to the full release of the album on September 19, 2012. [1] The album was produced by record label agency S.M. Entertainment while its artists lend their voices for the songs. Additionally, the original score of the series was also included in the album.

Singles

Butterfly

"Butterfly" was released as the A-side of the first single from the album on August 15, 2012. The sisters, Jessica of Girls' Generation and Krystal of f(x), teamed up to perform their first duet together. The modern pop-rock [2] song was composed by a team of European music producers that included Matthew Tishler, Andrew Ang and Susan Markle. Tishler had worked with S.M. Entertainment before on BoA's "Don't Know What To Say" and TVXQ's "She". The lyrics were penned by Kenzie, one of the resident composers from the agency. [1] "Butterfly" was used as the theme song for the love line between the male and female leads from the series. [3]

Stand Up

"Stand Up" was released as B-side of the first single and was also chosen as the lead single from the album and the main theme song from the drama series. [3] The pop-rock song was the Korean debut performance by J-Min, an solo artist under S.M. Entertainment who had been mostly active in Japan. Apart from composing the song, Groovie. K also provided the lyrics for the song. The music producer had worked with the record agency before on TVXQ's "Tri-Angle" and Super Junior's "Don't Don". The music video for "Stand Up" was released along with the full album release on September 19, 2012. Aside from featuring early scenes from the drama series, it also included a guest appearance by TRAX's Jungmo. [4] The band version of the music video was unveiled on October 4, 2012. [5] J-Min and Jungmo performed a special stage on Inkigayo on August 26, 2012. [6]

It's Me

"It's Me" was released as the A-side of the second single from the album on August 22, 2013. It was written by the music producer Zig Zag Note. The lyrics were a work of the music producer duo Lee Sang-yeol and Park Geun-cheol who also worked on a few other songs from the soundtrack album of the drama series. Sunny of Girls' Generation and Luna of f(x) teamed up for collaboration for the first time and provided the vocals for the "cheerful" and "up-lifting" song. The duet peaked at spot 25 of Gaon Weekly Singles Chart. [7]

In Your Eyes

"In Your Eyes" is a ballade performed by Onew of boy group Shinee. The track was included as the B-side of the second single which also included "It's Me". Both songs were written and composed by Lee Sang-yeol and Park Geun-cheol. The music producing duo had previously composed many tracks of the critically acclaimed City Hunter OST . They also penned the lyrics for the musical piece. [8] [9] The song peaked at spot 60 of Gaon Singles Chart.

Closer

"Closer" was released as the A-side of the fourth single on September 5, 2012 and was also the highest-charting song from the album, peaking at spot 7 on Gaon Weekly Singles Chart. The song was composed by Kenzie who has been working with S.M. Entertainment for many years while the lyrics were penned by Kim Jeong-bae. Kim Taeyeon, member of the pop group Girls' Generation, delivered the vocals for the song. The soft melody of the song was used as a theme to the growing love between the lead characters Kang Tae Joon (Choi Minho) and Goo Jae Hee (Sulli), once after it is revealed to Tae Joon that Jae Hee is actually a girl. [10] The same day, the accompanying music video for "Closer" was unveiled on S.M. Entertainment's official channel on YouTube, featuring scenes from the drama series. [11]

Lee Jin-ki, better known by his stage name Onew, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, actor and host. Born in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi-do, Onew was discovered at the 2006 SM Academy Casting and signed a contract with SM Entertainment the day after his audition. He debuted as the lead vocalist and leader of boy group Shinee in May 2008, who went on to become one of the best-selling artists in South Korea.

Secret (South Korean group) South Korean girl group

Secret (Korean: 시크릿) was a South Korean K-pop girl group formed by TS Entertainment in 2009. The group originally debuted with four members: Jun Hyo-seong, Jung Ha-na, Song Ji-eun and Han Sun-hwa. They released their debut single I Want You Back October 2009. Secret's debut single did not meet great success and it was not until the following year that the group saw a rise in popularity. In 2010, Secret released two singles Magic and Madonna which earned much attention with both singles peaking at No. 2 and No. 1 respectively on the Gaon Digital Chart. With the success of "Magic" and "Madonna", the group received the "Newcomer Award" at the 25th Golden Disk Awards.

G.NA Canadian singer active in South Korea

Gina Jane Choi, better known by her stage name G.NA, is a Korean Canadian singer, songwriter and actress based in South Korea. She released her debut EP, Draw G's First Breath, on July 14, 2010.

Oh Ji-Min, known professionally as J-Min(Japanese: ジェイミン), is a South Korean singer, songwriter and musical actress. She began her career in Japan before eventually debuting in South Korea.

Spica (group) South Korean girl group

Spica was a South Korean girl group formed in 2012 under B2M Entertainment. The group consists of Kim Boa, Park Sihyun, Park Narae, Yang Jiwon and Kim Bohyung. Their pre-debut single "Doggedly" was released on January 10, 2012, followed by their debut mini-album, Russian Roulette, on February 8, 2012. They officially disbanded on February 6, 2017, though Bohyung has confirmed a possible reunion in the future.

VIXX South Korean boy group

VIXX is a South Korean boy band formed by Jellyfish Entertainment through the 2012 reality show MyDOL. Originally a sextet, the group is presently composed of five members: N, Leo, Ken, Ravi and Hyuk—former vocalist Hongbin left the group and the agency in August 2020. They are predominantly known as a concept or performance group whose music, lyrics, choreography, and overall stage performances are crafted together to tell a story or concept.

Fiestar South Korean girl group

Fiestar was a South Korean girl group formed by Kakao M. Before the group's debut, they released a duet with label mate IU titled “Sea of Moonlight” for LOEN Entertainment's collective label album. The track ended up being a domestic success and entered the top ten of the Gaon Digital Chart, earning the group attention before their debut. The group officially debuted on August 31, 2012 with the single album "Vista" and six members: Cao Lu, Jei, Linzy, Hyemi, Cheska and Yezi.

"I Love You" is a ballad song performed by South Korean idol singer Kim Taeyeon, leader and member of the girl group Girls' Generation. The song was the main theme for the 2010 action-drama television series Athena: Goddess of War and the main title track for its sound track album. It was released as a digital single on December 13, 2010, under the record label of S.M. Entertainment.

Journey / Is It OK? 2011 single by TVXQ (feat. Seohyun) and f(x)

"Journey / ...Is It OK?" is the first A-side and B-side digital single to be released from the soundtrack album of SBS's TV drama Paradise Ranch. It was released on January 26, 2011 under the record label of S.M. Entertainment. The A-side track "Journey" was performed by TVXQ's U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin featuring Seohyun of Girls' Generation. The B-side track "...Is It OK?" was performed by Korean-Chinese girl group f(x). Both songs were later included in the Paradise Ranch OST which was released on February 9, 2011.

Urban Zakapa South Korean vocal group

Urban Zakapa is a South Korean R&B singer-songwriter group formed in 2009 by Fluxus Music. Originally a 9-member group, in 2012 they became a trio, consisting of Park Yong-in, Jo Hyunah and Kwon Soon-il. The group's name is an abbreviation for Urban, Zappy, Kaleidoscopic, and Passionate.

Ken (singer) South Korean singer

Lee Jae-hwan, better known by his stage name Ken (Korean: 켄), is a South Korean singer and actor, signed under Jellyfish Entertainment. He is one of the members in the South Korean boy group VIXX, and has been widely praised for his unique, soulful, and husky vocal tone. Ken began his acting career in 2014 in MBC Every 1's comedy drama Boarding House No. 24 as Lee Jae-hwan.

"I" is the debut single by South Korean singer Kim Tae-yeon featuring Verbal Jint, taken from Taeyeon's debut EP of the same name. It was written by herself, Mafly, and Verbal Jint, and produced by Myah Marie Langston, Bennett Armstrong, Justin T. Armstrong, Cosmopolitan Douglas, David Quinones, Jon Asher, and Ryan S. Jhun. Kim Jung-mo South Korean singer

Kim Jung-mo, professionally known as Jungmo, is a South Korean guitarist, singer, songwriter, record producer and musical actor. He debuted in 2004 as a member of South Korean rock band TRAX under SM and has participated in project group with Super Junior's Heechul, Kim Heechul & Kim Jungmo. In early 2012, his band TRAX took a break following their member military service and returned in January 2018 as a band before re-formed into EDM group, TraxX in the same year. In April 2019, Jungmo ended his contract with SM after fifteen years. He signed with PA Entertainment in November.

"Make Me Love You" is a song recorded by South Korean singer Kim Tae-yeon. It was released as a digital single on April 5, 2017, by SM Entertainment. The song's lyrics were penned by Cho Yun-kyung while its music was composed by Matthew Tishler, Felicia Barton and Aaron Benward. The song is the title track of the Deluxe edition of Taeyeon's first studio album, My Voice, which was released on the same day.

Moon Tae-il South Korean singer (born 1994)

Moon Tae-il, known mononymously as Taeil, is a South Korean singer. He is the main vocalist of the South Korean boy group NCT and its sub-units NCT U and NCT 127 under the label SM Entertainment. Taeil made his debut in April 2016 in the rotational unit NCT U and became a member of the Seoul-based unit NCT 127 in July 2016.
