White Pine County is a largely rural, mountain county along the central eastern boundary of the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,030. Its county seat is Ely. The name "(Rocky Mountain) white pine" is an old name for the limber pine, a common tree in the county's mountains.

The Humboldt River is an extensive river drainage system located in north-central Nevada. It extends in a general east-to-west direction from its headwaters in the Jarbidge, Independence, and Ruby Mountains in Elko County, to its terminus in the Humboldt Sink, approximately 225 miles away in northwest Churchill County. Most estimates put the Humboldt River at 290 miles (470 km) long however, due to the extensive meandering nature of the river, its length is more closely estimated at 380 miles (612 km). It is located within the Great Basin Watershed and is the third longest river in the watershed behind the Bear River at 355 miles (570 km) and the Sevier River at 325 miles (523 km). The Humboldt River Basin is the largest sub-basin of the Great Basin encompassing an area of 16,840 square miles (43,615 km2). It is the only major river system wholly contained within the state of Nevada.

The Central Corridor is a rail line operated by the Union Pacific Railroad from near Winnemucca, Nevada to Denver, Colorado in the western United States. The line was created after the merger with the Southern Pacific Transportation Company by combining portions of lines built by former competitors. No portion of the line was originally built by the Union Pacific; in fact, some portions were built specifically to compete with the Union Pacific's Overland Route. The line is known for significant feats of engineering while crossing the Wasatch Mountains of Utah and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The line features numerous tunnels, the longest and highest of these is the Moffat Tunnel.

Pequop or Pequop Siding is a ghost town in Elko County, Nevada, United States. It was located west of Toano on the route around the north end of the Pequop Mountains between Cobre and Wells. It was first a stop station of the Central Pacific Railroad and later a non-agency station on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Several buildings were erected to house section crews.

Ferber Hills is a range of hills in Elko County, Nevada and Tooele County, Utah. The range is formed in three parallel ridges of hills trending northwest to southeast. Its highest summit is Utah Peak, in the center of the central ridge of the range, at an elevation of 6,680 feet / 2,036 meters, just east of the state line in Tooele County, Utah. Its second highest Summit is Ferber Peak, that rises to and elevation of 6,601 feet / 2,012 meters, at the south end of the southernmost ridge of the range at 40°12′43″N114°03′18″W just west of the state line in Elko County, Nevada. The highest point in the smaller northernmost ridge is an unnamed summit at 40°17′12″N113°59′48″W with an elevation of 5,745 feet / 1,751 meters in Tooele County.
